Building my first PVR and want to know which remotes work with the GBPVR software. Does the basic (grey color) remote that comes with the Hauppauge cards work with the GBPVR software? Or is there a certain type of remote thats needed like a windows media center remote?

Computer will be either a XP pro or a Vista Home premium. Rather stay with XP but if vista is alot better for this then i will go that route.

Going to use two Hauppauge WINTV-HVR1600 cards. Want to be able to record 2 analog shows at same time hence the 2 cards. I have just analog cable control no box. just cable out of the wall.

There is two types of remote that typically come with the HVR1600 (retail and MCE remotes). These both work with GB-PVR.

I'm running Vista Ultimate with an Asus M2NPV-VM motherboard and am using the integrated 6150 graphics to feed the S-VHS input on a 27" CRT SD TV and I'm getting some flicker when in the channel guide. Later today I'm hoping to load up a spare drive with XP and GBPVR just to check and see if the flicker goes away under XP. I'll keep ya posted.

Beyond that, I've been happy with Vista and GBPVR - no real issues.

Since your running Vista Ultimate did you try using the built in Vista Media Center to run your PVR? If so what is better about GBPVR over the built in software (media center) in Vista??

Yes, I've played with the Vista Media Center. I was getting some jitter issues on the video playback. I'm sure it could be ironed out, but the main reason I discounted it was the Digital Rights Management built into it.

Here's just one article on the subject:
http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/200...tinks.html

I've also read that Tivo users have been bitten by the DRM bug too, I've read reports where you can't keep shows very long if a certain DRM is set. From what I recall HBO is bad about setting the flag and they don't give you much time - go on a long weekend and your show you recorded may have expired and been deleted off already!

I'm from the old school VCR users, I pay for expanded basic cable and I want to be able to record anything and archive it for a bit just like I used to be able to do with VCRs and tapes!

I was also guessing that if issues popped up it would be difficult to get support, but here at GBPVR Sub is our slave! Wink (just kidding Sub!)

TTYL,

Steve
