Does it matter what screen you're on in PVRX2?

Do you have anything in the plugins directory?

After reading some here on the forum. I stopped all plugins.

I just started PVRX2 and had it running minimized. So the menu screen. After a minute or two the spikes start.

It begins to bog down the system. So, I have turned it off.

Started it again and running minimized. After a few minutes the spikes started. Turned off PVRX2 and spikes go away.

Started it again with the same results.

If you leave PVRX2 sitting on another screen, like the Video Library, do the spikes continue?

Sub,
Launched PVRX2, selected Video library, usage <5%. Waited and watched.

A few minutes later, coinsiding with the GBPVR screensaver the spike began again. Approx. 80% CPU usage.

I then clicked on the PVRX2 screen and spikes stopped!!!!!

I just revisited the screen and repeted the above. The Screensaver appears to be involved!!

What next?

Its probably just a sign that your video card isnt up to the task, and uses a lot of CPU while doing the direct3d fading in/out of the screen saver.

Pretty much your only option is to disable the screen saver.

"Pretty much your only option is to disable the screen saver. "

Can you tell me how to do that?

Thank you very much!

edit: Screensaver Found and disabled. Will try recording and report back.

Untick the 'enable screen saver' option on the misc tab of the config app.

SOLVED!

I untick screensaver and still had the spikes and the splash screen??

I then unticked the splashscreen and all was OK.

Edit: to indicate the Splashscreen and Screensaver involved.

Thank you Sub!! I can now begin playing and customizing.

I was having the same problem (CPU would spike up precisely when the screen saver logo would fade). I noticed the problem when running Zoom Player to play DVDs as an external task, picture would stutter every 10 sec). I have an Athlon X2 4200+ and a GeForce 7300, so I was surprised to see a simple fade put a drain on the system.

I switched to the screen saver plugin and the spikes have gone away.

I noticed 2 things about this problem:
1. It only happened when PVRX2 was not the foremost window (e.g., ZoomPlayer was running as an external task. If PVRX2 was the foremost window, the CPU wasn't spiking.
2. My computer is connected to a TV (S-video) and VGA monitor in clone mode. Not sure if that was impacting the problem.
