Success!
Well aparently so anyways...
After much searching around the web - mainly on microsoft's site, it appears that there can be a mismatch on the versions of the JET database access control - versions 3.51 and 4.0 I think.
Anyway, being a complete hacker rather than an expert, I just deleted the "config.xml" (whoops I mean the gbpvr.mbd file!) file from the GBPVR directory and ran the "config.exe" utility. Just as I'd hoped, the "config.xml" file was rebuilt before my eyes and the config application worked again.
GBPVR also started up again, so it waws with some trepidation that I rebooted my machine.... And GBPVR still worked afterwards!
I have subsequently rebooted my machine a few times and the aplications still work with no errors (apart from the bleedin B&W picture - but I'm working on that!).
I know that what I tried was a real stab in the dark, but it might just be worth giving it a go yourselves.
Please let me know if it works for you, it's nice to know that maybe I've been helpful.
