how i fixed mine:

disable the recording service on all your clients - if a client is running (even with gbpvr not going) this appears to keep it awake.

Set WOL by magic packet as mentioned above.

use the MCE standby tool.

unplug the network from the server for a night or what have you, and see if it'll standby properly - this will eliminate network issues, which were my major reason for my htpc waking up. Troubleshoot from there.

Mine works perfectly now, but man, it took a while to make it this way. I also have the problem with waking up + being stuck at the gbpvr screensaver, so i have mapped a button on my remote to force alt+f4 + restart gbpvr, which seems to be working ok.

My PVRX2 will sleep as long as I turn off the network card's ability to wake the machine up again. Leave that 'Allow wake...' check box checked and the PC sleeps then almost immediately wakes up again. Ok, I can live with that: I just don't put it to sleep if I'm going to be away. It's sub-optimal but I can cope with it - although a fix would be nice. Smile

What's a bit more annoying to me and the rest of the household is that, on waking, the first video I play after waking causes the PVR display (it runs on Display 1 of 2) to disappear. The video is playing as the audio is working, and the PVRX2 process is still running. So I have to manually kill the process and allow my StartPVRX2 utility to do its stuff and restart the app. It's entirely repeatable. I can do it but the SO isn't too keen....

Thoughts on fixing this would be gratefully recieved...

PS: Should add - the PVR has a static IP, so the LAN problem is not DHCP-related.

I use WOL to wake my computer and it used to wake up all the time for any petty network traffic. On the Power Management tab of the card, under "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby." is an option, "Only allow management stations to bring the computer out of standby." Checking this made it so it never wakes via the NIC unless I tell it to with WOL packet. For me, the only drawback of this setting is that accessing the the web server or file share won't wake it up, not a biggie though.

@eskimoquin - thanks. It's one of those 'why didn't I try that?' moments. It works exactly as required, thanks.

In return, let me tell you about a useful command line utility MC_WOL that I found here that can easily be incorporated into a batch file for automated wake-up. And there's a richly-featured shutdown/wake-up utility DShutDown here that allows you to control the PVR's shutdown remotely.

Hope this all helps someone... Smile
