How do i configure the mce remote to do actions depending on the current location of the user within gbpvr? (like mediaportal, i was configuring it earlier, crashed and messed up recording, never using again) i want to configure the start button in gbpvr to go to the TvGuide if pressed while watching full screen livetv, but if pressed in the tv guide it goes back to what i was doing earlier.

Also i want to configure CH+ and CH- to show the Ctrl+G if in livetv before pasing the up and down commands.

This is all i need to completely finalise my install.

(sorry for making a new thread, but i wanted to keep it as a new topic so others can easily find this)

You can edit the xml files in the KeyMappings directory. You may not be able to achieve everything you want though. It depends on whether GB-PVR has a separate keymap for each area you want to configre.

Really nice idea about the Ctrl-G guide in LiveTV, but I'm not sure it will be possible. If you tell it to bring up the mini-guide with the channel up or down button, then what button will actually move the cursor in the guide? Pressing the channel up or down button again will just close the mini-guide since it doesn't have a separate keymap once you're in the mini-guide.

You may have to cajole sub into adding your idea as an optional checkbox in config (ie 'Launch Mini-guide for channel surfing?').

Well maybe it is, well if i know the timeout then i can use some other app as a key emulator, get event ghost to press a button, another key emulator then says when was the last time the key was pressed? was it less than the timeout? no? then press ctrl+g then press PageUp. but if it was last pressed within the osd timeout time then press PageUp again

If you can sort that out Ace, I'll be interested to know how you accomplished it.

I think i'm going to call it quits, tried for many hours but i couldn't do it. I'm going to switch to mediaportal but i'll check back here from time to time, i like the focus on the pvr instead of an all in one media center

Yea, i'm like that, i like being able to configure the media center depending on its current state and i couldn't find a way to get gbpvr's current state to eventghost.

It didn't miss a recording, it started one but then while i was switching channels it crashed everything so i assigned the blue button to kill mediaportal+tvserver and start them in case of emergency. Also i found the root cause to be a bug or a feature where it was using a folder on the C:\ drive (maybe as a buffer) instead of the K drive where there is space to store the tv streams(sorted by a quick ntfs junction). (C drive is only a 5GB XP software raid1 partition).

What i wanted in GBPVR: CH+ and CH- are used a lot and most of these tv cards are slow to switch to another channel (unless its less than 200ms its slow), i mean if you had only 5 channels then its fine but with freeview/freesat there are many channels and 99% of the time you aren't intending to switch to an adjacent channel. I mean why bother switching to every channel in between? the epg preview could tell you whats on as you flicked up and down. If you wanted to view a channel then press OK, or press nothing for it to time out and close the mini epg.

While we are on the mini epg, why is it different from the main epg? why not a small 4 line translucent epg which shows the same info as the fullscreen epg? there doesn't seem to be a point to the mini-epg if you have to press a button to get access to it, the user could go directly to the main epg to see everything. the only advantages are the fact that you can see the tv behind the mini epg and the the little info text. The disadvantage is that you don't see as much info as you see in the main epg, why not cut it out and assign CH+ and CH- to the small, translucent, 4 line epg, then have a button for the main full epg? OR CH+ and CH- showing the info you usually see about a show when you switch to it, e.g the title and the description but it only shows it, never tunes to the new channel unless you wait long enough

I also wanted to change the main epg's shortcuts so that the "i" button on the mce remote would show what "ok" currently shows, and "ok" to just go to the channel and show it.

Now i'm going to go find a way for the mce remote's power button to turn off only the monitor if MP recording, but if its not then suspend, suspend works fine atm.

what thats all crap
you can pull up the mini guide scroll to wher eyou want press play and what do you know you are watching that show
my mini guide looks just the same as my main guide except it only shows 3 channels
it works well
i think you need to try things out a bit more

if you press "i" on the remote it takes you back to the main menu you can open what ever you want while still watching press again it takes you back
or you can press the back button

i cant even see any advantage as to what you are asking or that gbpvr even is missing anything that is usefull

if you want fast switching turn on live preview mine switches faster than the past 3 tvs i have brought
