Hibernate questions

Hi, I'm pretty sure this subject has been discussed here before, but I just couldn't find a step-by-step through on how to set-up a hibernate-wakeup process with gb-pvr. I've tried/enabled most settings in my bios and lan card but none worked. Can someone please step me through the process on how I could hibernate my computer and have a scheduled recording wake it up. I have already set my computer to hibernate in 30 mins(no activity). I have also enabled some settings in the "power management setup" in my bios. Here are the following:
POWERMANAGEMENT/APM = ACPI
GREEN MONITOR POWER STATE = SUSPEND(DEFAULT), STANDBY, OFF
HARD DISK POWER DOWN STATE = SUSPEND(DEFAULT), STANDBY, DISABLED
VIDEO POWER DOWN MODE= SUSPEND(DEFAULT), STANDBY, DISABLED
STANDBY TIMEOUT (MINUTE) = DISABLED
SUSPEND TIMEOUT (MINUTE) = DISABLED
FDC/LPT/COM PORTS = MONITOR(DEFAULT), IGNORE
RING ON POWER ON = DISABLED
LAN CARD POWER ON = EENABLED
KEYBOARD POWER ON = DISABLED
RTC ALARM POWER ON DISABLED

I have also enabled some settings in my network card(SMC 1255TX-PF. all wake up settings). I tried scheduling some shows and force my computer(not by start->logoff->hibernate) to hibernate but it won't wake up.

This feature will definitely be useful since I'm going away for a week. I don't really want to leave my computer on for a week so I won't miss all my recordings. I hope you guys can help me. Thanks

RTC ALARM POWER ON DISABLED

I believe gbpvr wakes up the computer through RTC. Not sure though, but try to enable that.

I could not get my PC to wake from hibernate either. You may need to use Standby instead. They are not the same thing. Hibernate is powered off. Standby is a low power mode. Try standby.

Thats what I thought. Except it would not work for me. I found this. It describes the 2 modes.

Well to me the whole thing seems very hit and miss depending on your hardware configuration drivers etc..

I have no problem with my machine going into hibernation or waking at a specified time - I just can't guarantee that windows will startup correctly...

You need to enable "S3" in the BIOS setup. The 3 mobos I have tried this on have S1/S3 options. S3 turns the HDD, fans and CPU off, but allows wakeup at a certain time (i.e. scheduled event) - don't ask me how. My PC "shuts down" to S3 in about 3 seconds and takes about 10 to wakeup completely.

Unfortunately you need to reinstall windows for it to work correctly, it is something that windows seems to "adapt" to on installation. I tried dumppo and various other adjustments, but it always had some fault or other even with an install (originally done with S1 selected) that was only a couple of months old. With the same hardware and a fresh install (S3 set before install) it works perfectly.

I found it wouldn't wake up (from suspend) to record, or do the EPG (even w/ wake checked).

I'd go the other route, and find how to have it run w/ the lowest power possible (monitor off, HDs off, CPU low power, etc), and add a temp monitor to shut things down if it ran amok. If you don't get back for a week, and the last recording is 3 days before that, schedule a shut down/suspend/hibernate.

I have xp home. I'm not sure if you could set it to go standby. I looked at the power options, and i don't see anything for standby options/settings. I think standby is only available for xp pro.

Yes, I've read that thread before. I downloaded the sleeper program, but I'm getting an error. It says "this computer does not have support for system sleep states. Sleeper will now exit." Is there something I need to enabled in the bios?

Setting the RTC ON requires date,hour,min,second to be specified. That doesn't work either.

PvrCrazy: If you are not seeing Standby on your computer, then either a. your motherboard doesn't support it or b. It isn't enabled in your BIOS. I suspect thats why the program has an error also.
