as stustunz says, make sure you can add/move/delete a test file across the network in windows explorer for each of the network shares (gbpvr/live tv/recordings).
Turn off all firewall software including windows while you get it working.
If it still won't resolve the host name try using the ip address instead of server name (e.g. 192.168.0.1/GBPVR)
Try setting static IP addresses for each machine on your network.

BTW if you want to get the webadmin method working...
1) Install vlc on both machines http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
2) Enable webadmin in config on the server
3) browse to http://servername:7647/gbpvr

Ok, I've already got VLC player on both machines, but can't find where you put in the details for webadmin. And the TV buffer share and Recrodings share seem to be blanked out, should this happen?

I also still don't know what to put into these fields, and don't know what to put into the database share field. Can anyone help?

Thanks,
suddste.

Hmm, the problem isn't that my laptop can't see the host, I can actually browse and see my host in the datbase share box like this:

But it still doesn't work.

Heres a screenshot of both machines settings:

Is this correct?

looks like your server's called studste, not gbpvr (top box in config)

enable webadmin in config -> misc2 tab right hand side (actually it's called web server in config, but same-same Smile) leave the port number as 7647 and fill in a username and password - although it won;t ask you for this on an internal network

Greyed out fields are because they are only required for file sharing mode - you have streaming mode selected. IMO streaming is more reliable, but only works with limited file types (mpeg basically i think). File sharing will let you play .ts, .avi etc but I can;t get it to work smoothly in my setup.
database share looks right if if youve shared devnz\gbpvr on the server (which it looks like you have). Obviously if you share "program files\devnz\gbpvr" or just gbpvr then you would need to make the share name "\\studste\program files\devnz/gbpvr" or \\studste\gbpvr

I have entered that correct server name, and it seems when I select a channel on the client PC, it does actually tune, because I can see the light on the decoder and it shows that it is being used, even though my main PC is not on any channel, which shows that the client PC is actually requesting a channel now.

There is still a problem, the client PC does not display an image, but it does not go back to the EPG guide like it used to. Any ideas on this one?

PS can I assume this
Quote:Heres a screenshot of both machines settings:
is an error. Only the client (laptop) should be ticked to act as a client. The server should be unticked and settings left blank.

1) Make sure you're recording to mpeg files on the server (cyberlink or ATI mux).
2) Make sure you've got an mpeg codec installed on the client - don't leave it at system default.
3)Try file sharing mode (especially if you're not using mpeg files) - might be better for you than me.
4) Stick a network cable between the machines while you're testing. Once it's up and running you can take it out and see if the wireless isup to the job

also can you do everything except watch video? can you browse the epg and schedule recordings etc.?

Thanks, but:
1. How do I do this?
2. I think thats done
3. That didn't work

And yeah, I can only see EPG data, I can shedule recordings, but it seems to only record on the server PC.
