Hi there,

Apologies for not searching the forum more for these messages but the pathetic captcha kept getting in the way... that really should be made legible (obviously a vBulletin issue not a GBPVR one).

Anyways, I've just upgraded and have started again with my GBPVR configuration and seem to be having some major issues and was hoping some anyone with experience of setting up the following system on a Vista x64 system may be able to shed some light.

- Hauppauge PVR150
- Vista x64 Ultimate
- Composite input method

I've installed the x64 drivers for the card however I cant test with the Hauppauge software because it doesnt support 64bit.

When recording or viewing live TV I either get now picture, or a very broken up garbled picture within GBPVR, any ideas?

I know Hauppauge make terrible drivers so I just wanted to check if there were any known issues?

Any help very much appreciated.

Ta

I'm not aware of any known issues with Vista x64. Can you post a screenshot of the garble picture?

Also post the pvrx2.exe-native.log so I can see the decoders your machine is using.

Do you have 4GB or more of RAM? If so, the 150 card will not work for live TV. From this page:

http://www.hauppauge.com/site/support/su...vr150.html

"Note: Currently, the WinTV-PVR-150 and WinTV-PVR-500 receivers used with 64-bit versions of Windows are limited to less than 4GB of memory."

Otherwise, if you have less than 4GB, diligent experimentation with drivers and decoders (as usual) should solve your issue. As an x64 Vista Ultimate user for my primary machine, I have been waiting patiently for a while for Hauppauge to fix this issue so's I can throw an old 150 card in and get some use out of it. For now it will continue to gather dust.

I just installed Vista 64bit Ultimate. And i have the same garbled picture in recordings and LiveTV.
I have a few different drivers for PVR-150 and im gonna try them all tonight because theres one
of those drivers that i didnt get the garble. When i have it ill post where to get it.

When youre using Vista disable UAC (User Account Control). I had trouble with mc2xml because it
couldnt write the data in C:\Program Files (x86)\Devnz\mc2xml when i diasabled the UAC it worked just fine.
There are other programs that have problems with UAC and untill all software are modified to work with UAC
i think UAC should be disabled. And if u have youre security software installed and up-to-date, there shouldnt
be any more risk then with an XP machine.

I'm rinning Vista x64 with no issues but I don't have any Hauppauge cards.

I would not recommend disabling UAC, especially for the average user. You can set mc2xml to always "Run As Administrator" in the files properties. You can always place it in a folder like "C:\EPG" as well, in which case it will not have any issues writing to the folder and GBPVR will have no trouble reading it there.

Sorry for the belated reply, and thanks for the replies.

I'll get on to sorting some logs out and a screenshot Sub, how do you apply the command line switch to enable logging? Just load from a run prompt?

weisguy: that could well be my problem thank you - I thought the note meant that the PVR150 was only able to take advantage of up to 4gb RAM.

Does this issue only effect Live TV for you? As I had the same problem with recordings.

If this turns out to be the problem then I'm totally appauled - I was aware when I first configured this PVR system some 3 years ago that Hauppage make shoddy drivers but this appears to be totally absurd, and has just ruined a fantastic upgrade

Cheers,

Steve

To be honest I never got beyond live TV... once I realized what the problem was, I didn't pursue installing the card in my Vista x64 machine w/4GB of RAM.

Looks like this guy had the exact same problem:

The british site of Hauppauge doesnt mention any issues and has a more resent driver.
Ill give it a try tonight.

Thanks meezcore! I didn't know Hauppauge had a UK site... looking forward to hearing of your luck.
