Reception is very bad, choppy with almost no sound

Here's the update. After I rebooted the video was smooth with the MPEG-2 you gave me but the audio was out of sync. So I uninstalled GB-PVR, rebooted and then installed it again, set all the decoders back to System Default and it has been working perfectly since.

I have installed SageTV, BeyondTV, WinTV and all have worked flawlessly - and no setup required. I have tried everything I can, hours of work, to get GBPVR working and it just doesn't. No matter what I do, live TV is choppy.

I give up.

These pay apps $$$ all have the advantage of being able to ship with decoders they know works well. GB-PVR on the other hand has to rely on decoders you happen to have on already your machine. This works out find for most people (and just works), but occasionally a user will have a default decoder that just doesnt do a good job, causing problems like you describe. You can install other decoders and try them to resolve the problem though.

I'm willing to try one more time - I have a ATI Radeon HD 3680 and a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 Dual TV Tuner on a XP box - what decoder do you suggest?

A couple of decoders I often suggest are below, but I'm not sure how well these work with with highdef MPEG2 as used in the north america (I'm in New Zealand).

mpv decoder works ok, but doesn't de-interlace very well though so I'd recommend mtlitguy try the ATI Avivo decoder. you download that at the video driver download page. I think you're supposed to use the version of AVIVO that matches your Catalyst version... usually AVIVO is the second download listed under 'Additional Downloads' once you get to the main driver download page (such as this for Catalyst 9.2 for XP: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/wi...ng=English ) yes, the download description doesn't mention anything about a decoder being included, but it's there.

the MPA decoder works ok for mpeg audio, but not for AC3 (many of my channels have AC3 audio, I presume Canada is the same). I use the ffdshow audio decoder for everything, it seems to just work. AC3filter is another choice.

myself, for video I use the Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 decoder. you can get it as part of the k-lite codec pack, though I doubt that's technically legal.

edit: also, if you have installed WinTV then you should have the 'Intervideo no-css decoder for Hauppauge' available which should work ok as well
edit: another also, advice elsewhere in the forum here says you should be running at least Catalyst 8.11 with your HD3000 series card, else you won't get decent HW decode acceleration which will cause poor performance.
