gbpvr and 64-bit Windows 7

Just a short note to report that I was able to get gbpvr running under the Windows 7 64-bit beta. The only issue I have is using it with HDHomerun. The latest installation software on the Silicondust web site contains both 32-bit and 64-bit drivers and doesn't give you the option of which one to install. So, it installed the 64-bit drivers, which run fine with VLC. However, it appears to be incompatible with gbpvr. I don't know if I'll pursue this problem any further, but I thought you'd be interested in hearing the results of my experiment.

Both 32 and 64 bit drivers should have been installed (same as running on Vista x64).

Hi whurlston,

First, I checked the Silicondust thread you referenced and my computer already has the correct value for the key they mentioned.

Next, I checked the installation of the HDHomerun software. Under Windows 7, there are two program directories. The installer puts 64-bit applications in the "Program Files" directory and 32-bit applications in a "Program Files (x86)" directory. Windows 7 installed HDHomerun in the 64-bit directory and not in the 32-bit directory. I suspect those applications are using the 64-bit drivers. Gbpvr was installed in the 32-bit directory.

When I saw error messages in the logs generated during digital channel mapping, I searched this forum looking for hints. Someone who had experienced similar errors finally determined that it was due to 64-bit drivers. At the time, he was able to uninstall the 64-bit drivers and install the 32-bit ones. I don't know how I can do that with Silicondust's install program.

Given that I could be wrong about the errors, I am attaching the logs from my last attempt.

The SD installer should have installed both versions of the driver like it does on Vista, they would both be in the 64bit Program files folder though. There should be a hdhomerun_bda_x86.ax file in the folder. That would be the 32bit filter.

I have the Win7 beta but haven't had a chance to look at it yet. If you can give me a day or two, I'll load on a machine and try it.

In the meantime, can you run filtercheck.exe and post the resulting log file? Also lket me know if the _x86.ax file was installed.

What problem are you having exactly? The logs seem to show everything working. Are you just not finding channels? If so, try using the QAM.ini manager and try one of the center channel settings.

I ran the QAM.ini manager and told it to use center frequencies (70-138). I verified that it successfully generated a qam.ini file. I ran config and updated the epg. I then clicked on the Digital Channel Mapping button. It brought up the Digital Channel Mapping window and then a pop-up window that said, "GB-PVR was unable to start the BDA device you have configured. Check the device is configured properly, and not already in use." After clicking OK, I received another pop-up that said, "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately. Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
