TS Mux Problems

I have been trying to get the TS recording working for a while now but always end up hitting the same problem, I am now keen to get this working to take advantage of multi record. I am recording UK terrestrial freeview channels, so thats SD with normal mpeg video and audio. If I record a show, wait for it to finish and then watch it, everything works fine, however if I start watching while it is still recording or use timeshift live TV then after a random period of time (10 seconds to 10 minutes) the audio starts stuttering really badly but the video is fine, this does not happen with the Cyberlink mux. I am currently using the MPV and MPA decoders with the audio renderer set to default, I have however tried various other combinations.

Any ideas?

If you skip back when this happens, does the problem correct itself?

sounds like audio renderer problem,but also maybe audio decoder settings..
setting audio decoder to anything other than PCM 16bit can cause stutters that way if your audio card can't handle it..
and try the 'sound card' direct renderer..[the selection thats same name of your sound card]
i usually stay with directx->default sound card tho..

Sub: Yes skipping back or even pausing momentarily will fix it but it then comes back later.

pBS: I have tried the sound card named renderer as well, its an nvidia soundstorm builtin sound card by the way and is outputting via the SPDIF to an external decoder. As I said it is working fine with the mpeg mux.

At the same spot in the file? ie, is it a problem in the recorded file, or a playback problem.

I have just run a few tests, I started timeshift live tv, paused for a minute or so and then played. After a couple of minutes the stutter started so I skipped back, it did not restart in the same place, in fact it played for 12 minutes with no problem before I got bored waiting. I do believe that it would have started at some point from previous tests.
To give more detail on the stuttering, it starts as a glitch every few seconds but then becomes more regular over the next minute or so time the breaks are every half second or so. At that point I have always stopped or paused to correct it.

I'm not really sure. It definitely sounding like a playback problem though, so make sure audio renderer is set to 'system default', and try other combinations of decoders.

Mmm, I have tried various combinations of decoders, the strange thing is that it only happens when the file is still being recorded to, finished files play fine.

It could by some some I/O problems on your machine, with it sometimes not being able to keep up with both reading and writing that amount of data at the same time. Playback after it completes only requires reading. Check stuff like your disk isnt too fragmented etc.

I run a regular defrag every night and to be honest I can't see why the mux would affect that sort of thing anyway. IO seems OK I have recorded 4 channels simultaneously and all played back OK.
