I did a search and basically, only "I" showed up with this mobo and very little for "3100" ....

Anyway, my goal is to "fine tune" the video output as I know it can be better.

This MOBO has the ATI Radeon 3100 in it, and plays out to the TV disapointingly rough, compared to my playstation dvd player.

(DVD's and avi or xvid are noticeably different)

Let's just work with DVD for quality sake, for now.

(The other night, I was watching a dvd through the PVR and... well it locked (seperate issue, I will work on later)

So we put the dvd in the PS2 and could not believe the differance in video quality! Wifeyj, then looked at me and said "emmmm Hmmm" as she knows how much time I spend on the PVR. I need to show her and myself that all this time is worth the efforts!

How shall we get started with this?

I have a sucessor board to yours, an M3A78-EMH-HDMI, which has 3200G integrated graphics, with up to 700MB of share memory. Sadly, I ran into problems. Please take a look at this thread:

These problems are severe, and I don't see an answer. I have no idea what made the system work. At this point, I can only hope that ATI will fix it.

Thanks rmorein.
I have the 8.522 driver and have been using it for a few months. I am not having all those issues, but I think I can "fine tune" this somehow to make playbacks have better quality. I have no stuttering or tearing - which is good, but the image seems faded\not so crisp compared to a seperate dvd player.
GBPVR V 1.2.13 (PVRX2 and Gbpvr renderer = VMR9 full screen exclusive, the rest are set to system default, including DVD playback.

1. How do I figure out what codec is being used for playback?
2. ATI CCC - what are some of the settings that should be investigated.

You used the phrase "disappointingly rough", which is why I thought you had a similar problem.

If your complaint is about the color, the answer is simple. Use the Catalyst Control Center in "advanced mode" to adjust the video color settings.

well here's your problem right there, 780V doesn't have the required UVD on board..
i was curious what the difference was between the 780g and 780v so i looked around and found it, the V doesn't have the uvd! meaning no onboard decoder for 264/vc1...
it should still accell mpeg2 but only deinterlacing...

no problem, go get ffdshow beta6 and set it to decode 264 and mpeg2...[for mpeg2 use libmpeg2,not avcodec in ffdshow codecs]

this will give you liquid smooth playback on 264 and mpeg, tho not actually accelerated, it shouldn't be hard on cpu at all...less than 50% on one core..
Hardware: HDHR Prime, HDPVR 1212, Raspberry pi2, VFD display w/LCDSmartie

Thanks for the input. I apologize for responding back so late.
Call me crazy, but I was so excited to start going HD, that I bought a HD Radeon 4830. (Great all around card!) Came with a free game and a $10 dollar rebate. Now I'm trying to find the best quality settings on this. I may be anal at this point, but just want the best I can get. I may be taxing out my RCA Scenem 52" rear projection TV (DVI input)
I know... new thread...
Thanks guys.
