No - AFAIK, to "fix" this, playback would have to track frames, and that change is not planned.

Do you see a noticeable difference in playback quality between TS and DVR-MS? I haven't seen that. The only thing I miss about TS is the multirecord feature.

I've considered using Comclean to actually remove the commercials - then I could record TS and watch the ad-cleaned video, but comskip just isn't quite good enough for that option to work 100% of the time.

I have never found comskip to be so accurate that I would use comclean (doesn't it toss the commercials so you can't manually ff/rw to adjust?). That is not a slam on comskip. I think it does a terrific job. It just happens to be a very hard thing to do since shows do unpredictable things that trigger a cut (flash screen to white or black for effect, etc.).

I found that ts playback was not quite as 'crisp' as dvr-ms, but it seemed 'smoother'. Maybe I am just seeing things, but it felt more natural.

We don't record lots of shows and seldom have conflicts so multi-record is not a big deal for us. Now with Hulu, etc. I can deal with the odd conflict by just watching from the web. In fact, I suspect over the next five years that I won't need a PVR for the most part and in ten years I might not even need cable, if the trend to move to the web continues.

Newspapers are witnessing the crush from the web and how far back can cable be? They resisted cafeteria style subscriptions so now the web gives me that WITHOUT a cable bill. IMHO, cable companies are destined to become just broadband providers unless they can find a way to get on the other side of the equation. I seldom go to Blockbuster anymore since I have Netflix and Redbox. Old business models tend to take down their market leaders and it ain't pretty.

You are exactly right, but if it was good enough, I could use TS/multirecord and still skip the commercials by running comclean. Right now it's one or the other, and I've chosen commercial skipping. Comskip knows the exact frame location of the commercials, but GBPVR only knows that when playing DVR-MS.

I didn't notice this. Perhaps you are using different decoders, renderers, etc.

That's why I chose comskip over multi-record, but there are times I'd like both.

I've still not seen a solution, so we stick with DVR-MS, and forego multi-record. Most of the HD channels on our Comcast are on separate physical channels anyway, so in order to enjoy multi record, with a very few exceptions, we would have to run in SD.

I'm sure Sub will get this synched up, but I understand it is a difficult issue.

In my experience, the TS seemed a little more forgiving. I had issues with one channel (CBS) which would corrupt the file. With DVR-MS, the file is simply not playable. With TS, it seemed playable up to the corruption. But, in the past 6 months or so, have not had any issues with DVR-MS.

in the past 6 months or so, have not had any issues with DVR-MS.

I ran DVR-MS and comskip happily for a year, then tried TS for multirecord, but gave up to get comskip back and make the wife happy. The last 5 months of DVR-MS have been trouble-free. Last night we watched 2 or 3 episodes of Paleoworld and the wife again spontaneously commented how great the combo of comskip with GBPVR is. Comskip had perfectly identified each of 3 commercials in each episode and GBPVR's player had skipped each one without any input from us.
