I have a DVD of Peter Gabriel's Growing Up - Live. It plays fine on a normal DVD player but in GBPVR I can't navigate the menu. The menu video and audio play, but none of the options are highlighted and the up/down/play buttons don't do anything, neither does clicking the menu items with the mouse. The left/right buttons also don't navigate - they bring up a sort of green GBPVR icon at the top of the screen; only the Stop button works as expected.

If I rip the DVD to files on disk (DVDRipper or DVDShrink), or ISO and play via Daemontools it still doesn't work. If I just rip the main movie, that plays fine (as you'd expect - but of course there's no menu or need for one!).

Funny thing is, if I play it in MediaPlayer from DVD or ISO it plays just fine; the menu works and all options are selectable. I don't know how to play ripped DVD files in MP other than the individual VOBs, so I can't test that.

My config settings are DVD Navigator, ffdshow video decoder, VRM9 exclusive video renderer, ffdshow audio decoder, System Default audio renderer. Graphedit confirms these are the settings being used.

I've tried other video and audio decoder combinations (ffdshow, cyberlink PVD7 and 9, MPC) but without success. I tried the Cyberlink DVD Navigator too but that wouldn't play at all.

This is under Windows XP/SP3, but I've also tried it under Windows 7 with the same issue - it plays in MCE but doesn't play in GBPVR.

All my other DVDs (physical, ripped or ISO) play fine. Just this one doesn't.

I would appreciate any help or ideas on this problem, as it has me stumped.

Thanks.

Try using the MPC-HC MPEG2 filter. Its the only one I have ever used that will show the menu buttons and highlights properly. You can get a SVN build from http://www.xvidvideo.ru/content/category/1/1/2/ and just download the standalone filters from one of the builds. Just register Mpeg2DecFilter.ax and add it to the supporteddvddecoders in Config.xml

Thanks guys, I'd already tried the MPC (Gabest) MPeg2 Decoder but downloaded the latest version anyway and tried again - no luck. The menu plays, the first option is highlighted, but I can't select any of the options with either the remote, the mouse or the keyboard.

Had also read that other thread and tried the suggestions there - again no luck.

While I have had problems with menu option highlighting using some other decoder and renderer combinations, I have never had any problems with the ffdshow video decoder (tryout beta 6), with the MPEG2 codec set to libmgeg2 and the Decode DVD checkbox ticked. Or with MPC Mpeg2 decoder for that matter - both seem to work fine but I get more control with ffdshow (like being able to adjust audio/video sync on the fly)

On all my other DVDs the menu options highlight properly and can be selected with either of these codecs and VMR9, it's only this particular DVD that causes problems. Wish I knew what graph MediaPlayer (11) was building, as that works.

I'm beginning to think its some problem with the DVD itself, and maybe I need to work out which VOB is which and re-author the DVD with a completely new menu instead.

Any other suggestions much appreciated.
