Have just installed gbpvr and picture and sound are working fine on all freeview channels except for TV3, it seems to be lagging behind on sound. Does this have something to do with the codecs? If so which codecs should I be using?

give us some specs on your hardware CPU and Graphics mostly and OS, maybe it's too small?

Also I assume you're talking dvb-t (freeview|HD)

What codecs do you have installed? for tv1, 2 etc you need monogram. For tv3 you can be using monogram and/or ac3filter.

Try setting the audio renderer back to 'system default'.

Try setting the HE-AAC decoder to the Monogram AAC decoder, and the AC3 decoder to AC3filter (or something other than 'system default').

Never heard of those codecs being usable with our freeviewHD. And your GFX card may be borderline (I've heard of many problems with the ATI range of cards and freeview.

Interesting you say sound works, do you have monogram installed?

Since H.264 Decoder: ffdshow Video decoder is not a hardware based decoder, I'm assuming your cpu usage is pretty high while playing? This could be a factor. And this may only be resolvable by getting a hardware acceleration capable codec (PowerDVD 8 or Arcsoft total Media). And even then your gfx card may not be up to the task....

Yep, I'd agree - you really want to be using the ArcSoft or Cyberlink H.264 decoders if you can.

The Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H motherboard onboard graphics (ATI Radeon HD 3200) will cope just fine with NZ Freeview|HD on 32 bit Vista given a suitable H.264 codec that supports hardware accelleration - at least they do for me. I have the GA-MA78GM-US2H variant of the same motherboard, and use the Cyberlink H.264 codec.

I can only go by all the many threads i've seen where that board wasn't working. Many people were having problems. But this may have changed now with the newer ATI drivers I understood they may have finally implemented the DVXA hardware acceleration needed.

Yes there are a lot of second and third hand reports of problems, but very few instances of people who have actually tested the hardware themselves saying they had a problem, at least over the past 6 months or so.

I built a HTPC in May this year based on the Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-US2H motherboard and 32 bit Windows Vista. I use the Cyberlink H.264 codec for NZ Freeview|HD video and the Monogram codec for HE-AAC audio. I originally used ATI Catalyst version 9.4 and I'm currently on Catalyst version 9.7, and I've never experienced any Freview|HD playback problems. Hardware acceleration appears to be working as intended, playing a TV3 1080i recording my CPU (AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+) runs at around 5% utilisation.
