Odd thing this, i have working recordings from GBPVR (can play them on VLC and working in the UK with a UK MVP (PAL) recorded from a PAL PVR USB2 unit.

However i now have a USA MVP (NTSC) which wont play the UK recorded programs, the MVP works as have other files that it will play.

Will the MVP only play there native (NTSC / PAL) formatted MPEG files?
Many Thanks
Ashley

The Hauppauge dongle reject PAL NTSC mismatches. mvpmc will play them but the bottom is cutoff. Modern extenders like the NMT have no trouble scaling PAL (or HD for that matter) to NTSC SD.

Playing with it now.... did wonder if it would be a size mis-match.
Many Thanks

Using this one http://www.mvpmc.org/~mvallevand/dongle.zip, doesnt seem to be playing PAL MPEG 2 files on my NTSC MVP (recorded in GBPVR that played on a UK MVP)... Play on file results in black screen for 3 seconds then the menu.

The same files with VLC play fine (as expected) on a PC.
Many Thanks

Unable to cut down a file without re-encoding it... however here is an output data for the codec used to encrypt the file (that wont play on the NTSC MVP but does play on the PAL MVP).

File : 3.94 GB (1.42 GB), duration: 2:21:58, type: MPG, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 75 %
Video : 1.20 GB, 5250 Kbps, 25.0 fps, 720*576 (4:3), MPG2 = MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD)
Audio : 227 MB, 224 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x51 = Mpeg-1 audio Layer 2 [0xc0]
Many Thanks
Ashley

That wouldn't be the same test. I wanted to try a file that was known to not work on your system. Any binary cut would have worked.

The experience with the truncated PAL files isn't great anyway. Just rename them to avi and let ffmpeg do the conversion for you.

http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=3...ostcount=2 works well to snip samples.

Found a splitter, there is a 100Mb file here, this still works on VLC on my desktop and still has the same codecs inplace used (so hasnt altered the file).

Test Movie file (simpsons)
Many Thanks

As expected, your test file played on my NTSC monitor using mvpmc, cutoff at the bottom with green pixelization.

Code:
2010-01-10 18:54:10.291    VERBOSE    [7]    Request 200000 bytes (file size:104857600   file location: 104800038)
2010-01-10 18:54:10.291    VERBOSE    [7]    Not all bytes read. Got:57562  Filesize now:104857600
2010-01-10 18:54:10.291    VERBOSE    [7]    End of stream
