So I don't know if I should feel stupid or not but I am going to go ahead and say what my problem is and see if anyone can help. I've seen a few of the problems I have in other threads but without solutions. For reference, I'm running a PVR-500 in an Athlon 1700+ machine. So...

The first problem I am having is no files being created when I record, despite the little monitor going green and saying it's recording.

Secondly, in the Configuration under Playback I can't get the hardware decoder to work, only software, and oddly it gives me two options, one which is PVR-350 and the other Sigma Designs XCard. If I select PVR-350 I'll get a complaint that the PVR-350 can't be found (duh!). If I select the XCard, when I boot up GBPVR it says "Error: External component has thrown an exception". I can close the error box and go to the guide and try to start a program and get an error message with Just In Time error code (whatever that is). I can post that code is someone thinks it'll be helpful.

It's a little frustrating to have it partially work. I see what it can do and want it so bad. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks,

Martin

email your log files to me at support@devnz.com and I'll take a look. Include a link back to this thread so I know what the files are for.

The PVR500 doesnt have a hardware decoder, so you have to select the default 'None - use software decoder option'.

This also means you need to have an MPEG2 decoder installed on your machine, or you wont be able to watch any files you record.

The Hauppauge 500MCE support page doesn't include a link to their software decoder. I assume this is because their target market is Windows Media Center and it comes with it's own decoder.

You can find it listed under support for most of the other cards they sell or just use this link.

I am a little surprised you say the PVR500 doesn't have a hardware decoder. The website (and one of the main reasons I picked the wintv models) clearly states 'Watch one TV show while recording another to disk using the WinTV-PVR-500's built in dual hardware MPEG encoders."

As for watching files, I do have MPEG2 decoders installed, I simply have no file being created in the save directories, despite the folders for the shows being created.

As an add-on to my first post, I'm running Windows XP and not MCE.

Most of the Hauppauge cards are encoders, they use software to decode. I think the 350 is the only exception, it has hardware decoding.

They're capture devices, not playback devices.

Goatboyjr, the exception message you email me indicates you're trying to use an XCard but dont have one in your machine. Set the hardware decoder setting to 'None - use software decoding'.

As markm pointed out, the PVR500 has ENCODERs not decoders.

So I guess I should feel stupid for that one. :o I still haven't solved the recording issue though. Any ideas as to why does a folder gets created but no file when I try to record a show?

As I asked earlier, please email all your log files from "c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr" to me at support@devnz.com, and I'll take a look.

This is the EXACT issue I have mentioned a couple times in this forum. The main post with attached log can be found at http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=5259. Not much in the logs, but maybe a trained expert will know what is going on Smile. I have since moved on to try other similar programs, but would REALLY like to see this resolved as it looks very promising, and I am not all to impressed with some of the other options. PLEASE HELP?!?!?!?!? Smile

This issue happens when either trying to record OR when trying to enter timeshifting. When trying to enter timeshifting, you actually get a UI error that mentions something along the lines of "Can not open recording/file" or something like that (sorry, it has been a while).

I personally have played with some of the mux filters to no avail... It was after that point that I gave up.

Reproduce the problem then email all your logs to me at support@devnz.com

The log file in you other post only contains a little bit of the complete picture.
