Cheers Guys,

I'm downloading the ArcSoft Trial software now, so I'll give it a go tonight (I'll have to wait for my next outage window) and let you know how I get on. Sadly my WinTV CD has version 6 - oh well, thems the breaks.

You can download the upgrade from there, but it'll only install if you put in your original CD when requested, and then I think it'll only install the H.264/HE-AAC decoders if the CD you put in was the WinTV7 HD CD (vs the SD CD which only has the MPEG2 decoders).

Well, I think I failed miserably. I downloaded TMT 3 Gold (as it said it supported H.264 video and High Dev TV etc), but after installing I didnt see any Arcsoft decoder available for selection in the playback tab of the GBPVR config screen. I also checked in the Media Portal config tool and it couldnt see the Arcsoft decoder either.

Not deterred I set the GBPVR decoder setting for H.264 to "system", hoping that the decoder was somehow hidden and then played live TV (C4). I think its still using the ffdshow decoder (the logs are attached) - but I'm not really sure. The behavior was similar to what I saw with ffdshow.

Anyone know what trial TMT I need for the Arcsoft decoder? I might try Cyberlink for some trialware next Smile

With TME you might need to find ASVid.ax and register it before it'll show up in other programs.

Hey Sub,

Yeah, registering it got it to show up as an option in the config, but I just got a black screen when I try to view live or recorded TV. Searching through all my cd's that have come with my various video/tuner/motherboards, I came across a copy of powerdvd 8 - so I installed that, I was able to select that as a decoder and magically everything is good!

So now onwards and upwards. I'm actually quite amazed at the differences between the codecs and the impact it has on the apps using them (although to be fair I dont really understand how all the interaction works, or is supposed to work).

In anycase, for me CoreAVC is a no go with GBPVR (although you did say something along those lines earlier ;-) ), and actually now that I think about it, it may have been the cause of some of my media portal problems (but defintely not all) and I just didnt click to it - oh well, it was only 12 bucks US Smile

So I reckon thats this problem solved for me - thanks for all your help, and for providing GBPVR!

Cheers,
