I have searched these forums and tried various different solutions.

Here is the configuration:
Server in Windows Vista 64--I can watch and record Live TV and EPG gets updated. All Tuners are configured correctly 5 digital and one analog. 4 Tuners are dual Tuner HDHomeruns and the 5th is Hauppage 1600 Digital and 6th is Hauppage Analog. Windows firewall is disabled on both (which I hate-but I am savvy enough to create a firewall rule that would allow all ports opened only within my subnet). I have set up a QoS rule also on my router stating same all ports opened but only within my subnet.
GBPVR is being shared with permissions for everyone and full control. I have set up GBPVR recording service set up with a administrative logon on account on the server. I can from the client modify the stop bat file and see it saved with the changes on the server. I have created test.txt files on each of the GBPvr subfolders from the client on the Server and I am able to delete them without any problems from the client. I have another program TVersity that I can share all the recordings/shows/movies without any file-sharing issues. Hence why I don't understand how come GBPvr is not as friendly

From the Client I can setup recordings and view them. I can access the video, music, and photo library on the server via the GBPVR menu and play the different movies, photos and songs.

From the Client I can update the EPG on the server via the System tab selection. I am using a schedules direct account for my EPG source. Yet for some reason I am unable to watch Live TV either via the guide and selecting a show by clicking "watch now" option or the LiveTV option on the main menu from the client. I have set the delay to 6000ms.

I am thinking I may something incorrect in the server configuration. Because when I set up my client as a standalone server I can view liveTV, record, and schedule shows without any problems. The LiveTV issue only happens when I try to do client server relationship. I have TSMux with multiple recording enabled on both the server and the client.

Been playing with this for about a month and half and I literally don't have any hair left. In case one of the subs is wondering: the reason why I went with Vista 64 is as follows I wanted to have a computer with enough memory that could handle a large video sharing since I have five kids and four grandkids living in the home. I have a gig network throughout the house and it is wired not wireless.

Enclosed please find client and server files. Sorry for being wordy!

usually this comes down to mux used on server...what are you recording as? .mpg or .ts or .dvr-ms? [.ts multi-record i see from logs]
also, make sure not to have 'full ts' selected if using ts output..and i don't believe client's compatible with multi-record either..[it would then have to send several channels worth of video at once which chokes streaming]
using streaming or filesharing mode? that makes a huge difference..

the way i use it in xp is with .mpg output, over gigbit..delay set to 1000,streaming mode, works fine..[hd and sd]
with vista/7 tho, .ts may actually be more reliable for client..[just not in xp] as in win7/vista .ts can be viewed while in progress..

but since analog recordings are always .mpg, the mux doesn't effect it...so getting .mpg working will be good for all inputs...

from the logs.StartRecordingLiveTV() failed: System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:7968
i would make sure you are logged into a client account that has rights on the server as well..
[create user with same name and pw as on server so you can access server resources, make admin on both just in case..]

could also be a .net problem on server but i doubt it..more likely mux or permissions..

"usually this comes down to mux used on server...what are you recording as? .mpg or .ts or .dvr-ms? [.ts multi-record i see from logs]"

--I am recording as .ts for digital and mpg for analog. I do not have full ts selected.

"..and i don't believe client's compatible with multi-record either..[it would then have to send several channels worth of video at once which chokes streaming]"
--I have been able to set up multiple quick records from the client and the server has been able to handle it. I have been able to set up to record 5 programs at once from 5 different channels from the client computer and I see the tuners get selected on the server.

"the way i use it in xp is with .mpg output, over gigbit..delay set to 1000,streaming mode,
with vista/7 tho, .ts may actually be more reliable for client..[just not in xp] as in win7/vista .ts can be viewed while in progress.."
--I am using filesharing not streaming though.

"from the logs.StartRecordingLiveTV() failed: System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:7968
i would make sure you are logged into a client account that has rights on the server as well.."
--I am using an administrator account on the client that is also set up as an administrator account on the server. The issue I am having is the Ip address listed prior to the port 7968 (starts with a 204.xxx.xxx.xxx) That Ip address is not and has never been in my subnet or workgroup (I use private IPs). So I am trying to figure out if GBPvr uses that specific Ip address as an alias

--Would you recommend for me to uninstall GBpvr from the client and remove the devnz directly and reinstall it?
--Would you recommend for me to uninstall gbpvr from the server and reinstall it? I would hate doing that but I am not opposed to it as I have done it several times already (those digital channels are a PITA in setting up)
--By the way another piece of information-- the server is just being used for that--- as a GBPVR server and media file share.

Thanks for the quick response and any other suggestions would greatly be appreciated

check in client's config.xml for the database connect string...maybe it's coming from there..
server sounds like it's ok...it's most likely client settings..
i know you can schedule mulit-records fine from client, it's just when trying to watch tv when that mode is active it'll add lots of extra bits, making watching harder..[i think,i could be wrong]
anyways, filesharing mode should work fine if the server is win7 and using .ts, other than that i found it totally unusable for hd livetv..
streaming mode should work fine for both livetv and with .ts or .mpg,hd or sd..provided you have decent network bandwidth..Smile
only drawaback to streaming mode is comskip is off...but it works properly in video library even in streaming mode..
[video library is always in file sharing mode,so kinda best of both worlds..Smile]

actually this looks worse from logs..
2010-05-27 11:14:25.020 VERBOSE [1] Unexpected error locating DBProviderFactory: System.IO.FileLoadException: Could not load file or assembly 'C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Devnz\\GBPVR\\System.Data.SQLite.dll' or one of its dependencies. The given assembly

so i bet it's something to do with permissions locally...
i'd uninstall client and re-install somewhere other than \program files..
[solves tons of the vista/7 annoyances]

My wild guess is the IP that is showing up in your client logs 204.194.233.140 is part of a DNS farm for your ISP http://302directmedia.com/ Try using the hardcoded IP of the server instead of \\MEDIASERVER

Thank you pBS and mvallevand for your both of your insights! The solution to my issue came from both of you. I am going to be verbose on the fix so others who may have the same issue can use your solutions.

I manually changed the config.xml file using Notepad.exe to add the physical IP address of my server. I was still unable to view livetv. I then removed the GBPVR program from the programs x86\directory using the program and features applet in the control panel in Vista64. Then proceeded to manually delete the Devnz folder itself with any subfolders left using windows explorer.

I then reinstalled GBPVR 1.4.7 but directed to install to the C:\Devnz\GBPVR directory. I used the network name for my media server (GBPvr server) but still was unable to watch Live TV.

So then I proceeded to manually change the config.xml to hardcode my IP address of my media server.

Voila! i am able to watch Live TV from both, the LiveTV menu option in the main menu and from the TV Guide itself!

So for others the solution is two fold--install GBPVR to the root directory (normally "C:" instead of accepting the default installation directory of "C:\program files x86\...."

Once you configure your gbpvr configuration file with filesharing search your network for your gbserver via the network name. Save your config.xml file and then manually edit with notepad the config.xml file with the IP address of your server.

The following are the options in the gbpvr config window, that I am using. Please change yours to suit your network.
SETTINGS

General Tab
Default settings of "Blue skin" and "Show in Windowed mode"

Playback Tab --(I will try the other settings and respond with my results but this is what is working now)
Video Renderer - VMR9 Custom

--MPEG2 Playback
Video Decoder "System Default"
Audio Decoder "System Default"
AC3 Decoder "ARCsoft Audio Decoder HD"
Audio Renderer "System Default"

--Advanced Codec
H 264 Decoder "System Default"
AAC Decoder "ffdshow Audio Decoder"
HE-AAC Decoder "System Default"
DD+ /E-AC3 "ARCsoft Audio Decoder HD"

--Aspect Control
Widescreen 16x9

--LiveTV
LiveTV Preplay delay "3000"

Capture Sources (IPs are installed by manually editing the config.xml file with notepad-under the Client settings)
Client Server - "File Sharing"

Server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx --> your Ip of your GBPVr server -it would be best to use a static ip or a reserved dhcp ip if your router allows it

Settings for REcording/TVBuffer/Database as follows

Recording xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\recording folder (recording share from your server)
TV Buffer xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\LiveTV folder (LiveTV buffer share from your server)
Database xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\Denvz\GBPVR
