Heh he, so what you saying there Jaggy?

I had to blag my way through getting my 1st NMT with Mrs Steeb, all MVP's were bought 'ipso facto' with her knowledge.

Yes long term I could switch all devices to NMT's but as per previous post nothing quite like booting up my MVP in the garden and watching live TV.

It may be different across the water but my MVP's were picked up at a lot less cost than an NMT.

And they just work, solidly.

but don't handle the .ts

Hmmm no more comment

All the best

Quote:Deciding what to do about the MVP was very difficult. At the end of the day I decided it wasnt worth compromising on the capabilities of NPVR, and creating myself lots more work, just to provide 100% support for MVP.

Instead, I opted to provide limited support for the MVP, and focus on the future. This device is now getting very old, and was becoming a poor match with the rest of the technology we have to deal with. I initially added MVP support to GB-PVR in 2003, when everybody was using analog capture devices. Skip forward to around 2006 and the majority of users were starting to switch to digital tv, and the MVP was not up to the playing many of the recordings that people were starting to make (HD MPEG2, AC3, H.264, HE-AAC etc).

There is still limited support though. You can see the UI, schedule recordings, play recordings (albeit via an on-the-fly-transcode). For those that are in a heavy MVP environment, or analog only, may choose to add a PostProcessing.bat file to auto convert their recordings to .mpg files (which is a quick remux, not transcode), so the on-the-fly-transcode doesnt have to happen. This leaves live tv as main thing missing.

Hopefully you guys can understand why I made this decision. Unfortunately 2003 is a life time ago in terms of technology, and I'm not even sure they still make the original MVP, so it was very hard to justify the effort that would be required to support it as well as GB-PVR did.

Actually on reflection I can't. The one word I believe you have missed here Sub is 'Client'.

I'm sure I've missed something from latest release of N-PVR but where are the Clients?

Superb work

The NMT and MVP and both clients. The MVP is limited, but the NMT supports the full set of functionalty. As mentioned in other threads, PC clients are a work in progress and will make an appearance in the near future.

I'm sorry if you feel aggrieved over this MVP live tv issuse, but unfortunately its something you'll just need to get used to. There is zero chance it'll be changing in the future, the NPVR application is designed from the ground up around 'transport streams' rather than the 'program streams' the MVP requires. I've tried above to at least let you know why.

Yup no worries, though I love it the written word often gets mis-interpreted.

Yes I will have to get used to the lack of MVP support on live TV, just progress.

You have been clear on everything, just gonna miss my MVP's!

If you have MVPs that have run and continue to run GBPVR just fine and your not inclined to update to NMTs anytime over the next few years and your fine with SD TV. Just continue running your current version of GBPVR server software and resist the desire to always update to the latest. i.e. if it ain't broke don't fix it. See my sig and I'm happy and so is the WAF Wink

steeb, I'm using .ts recordings currently with my MVP (GBPVR 1.4.7 - using TS Mux settings) and they play back fine as well as stream live. I was under the impression that in the UK the DVB to .ts process was OK with the MVP, or am I missing something fundamental here?

Any pointers for starting the server - to see what it will do? I have start 2 servers selected in settings, but rebooting the MVP (using Martin's dongle) still loads GBPPVR

OK, forget that...... 10 minutes later I restarted again and now getting NPVR menu. Can play old MPG recordings but no sound at the moment... but still trying

To test the key is to set AutoStart > 0 in the config.xml you want to use, and to 0 in the one you don't and then restart both NPVR and GB-PVR Recording Services

Not sure if just me but I have yet to get existing non-mpg recording (mainly AVI and MKV) working on my MVP with N-PVR..

N-PVR appears to transcode them to mp3 files and I can see no options to change this.

Couple of other observations.

If stop playing video on MVP transcode continues
dongle name file in config is ignored. I had multiple dongles in the dongle folder but N-PVR always choose dongle.bin no matter what I put in config
MVP log file doesn't contain much info and no file history is kept.
