I recently bought a Gigabit switch to hook up my home PCs with, this includes my HTPC. So I have the switch connected to my router, which is connected to my DSL modem.

My problem is now that I've done this, I cannot get any ports opened up to a PC connected to the switch, so I can't get port 7647 opened to my HTPC for EWA. My router does static IP addresses for the PCs attached to it, and this includes the PCs connected via the switch.

I've attached a diagram of my network. My router is a Trendnet TEW-432BRP, and my switch is a Trendnet TEG-S80G.

If anyone has any ideas on what I can do, please let me know.

Thanks!

Weird - adding a switch should not make any difference so far as port forwarding is concerned. I have a similar setup to yours and when I added the switch it made no difference at all (apart from the extra speed transferring files between PC's).
However I have always used uPNP on my netgear router, so have never needed to manually forward any ports - have you opened port 7647 on your router;

Just curious, are you trying to connect to NPVR's EWA? By default, it's on port 8866.

That's what I thought, but I can't get connected to it. I have it setup just like it is shown in the URL you provided.

I am still using GBPVR, I haven't migrated over yet.

I have the same setup, except for D-Link router and switch, but in spite of what is said in the manual I'v found that my router ALWAYS need a reboot after setting up port-forwarding to make it effective.

can you ping and tracert to the router ? for all the PCs ? Can you ping machine A from machine B ?

can you see other computers from other computers ?
Can you access the EWA from other internal machines ?

Are you attempting external view of EWA ?

if so :

Are you able to get to your router ?
Do you have port forwarding and NAT support enabled ?

why can't you get a port opened up on the router? it just doesn't work? or it won't let you..
he's right, the setup without switch should work exactly same as with switch...
i have similar setup, dsl->wireless router->gigabit switch->all pcs...
even without static ip i can port forward...[name based]

i've seen some switches take an entire day to propagate changes to the routing tables...
[i guess they had to expire/timeout before reading config changes again]
also make sure the input to switch is plugged into a wan port if it has one, or crossover port if it only has one, but any port will do if it's auto-mdx sensing..[all ports auto-crossover detection]

plug computer into router directly and setup, then add switch after port forwarding is working well...
