i think it may be an xp only thing....and maybe sp3...
just glad it works now... never any problems with any other apps and i never install codec packs, just ffdshow and mpchc filters and pdvd7... they are both the exact same file, mpg2splt.ax so go figure...

I still have a problem with lots of old pvrx2 recordings not creating a graph, so I'm running with <ForceMpgGraph> set to false. The failing recordings then work fine - they also work fine with pvrx2. All my recordings are trimmed using MpegStreamClip. The general thought at the time was that some recordings were non-standard in some way after they had been edited.
I'm on XP Pro SP3.
what mux did you record with? maybe that's the difference..
i'll see if any re-encodes will play...that would eliminate any mux diff.. yep, different mux's play fine... must have been the ati mux i used for so long.. arrrgh..it's only stuff i recorded with pvrx2!! when i used anything else to record, even with same mux, it's playing fine... either that or it was the ati mux itself...i thought it was the special 'type 14' recordings created..[from direct.ini] either way *all* my sd recordings can't be imported...no wonder importing them didn't work unless i told it to not check for renamed and deleted recs.. otherwise it would not let me into recordings screen after import...

My PVRx2 recording are fine and I think it is wrong to point the finger there especially after if files have been post-processed, they really aren't PVRx2 recordings anymore. Also ACTCMS pointed me at one of his problem files and NPVR plays it okay with ffdshow.

not trying to point any fingers, just trying to figure out what's going wrong,i have a feeling it'll bite me in the butt later if i don't figure out why they aren't playing with forcempggraph on..
i'm not sayng it's pvrx2's fault, just that something may be handled differently between the two.. is that not the same demux used by pvrx2? [the mpeg-2 demultiplexer] just seems odd pvrx2 will play them but npvr not...

hmmm,they also won't play on win7 either...
should i upload a clip? it's got to be the recordings then... it's just that i can't find anything else wrong with they system...and it's been running for several years now.. and these are un-retouched original recordings...straight from aver 780 hw encoder to ati mux...never had a problem playing them anywhere..

I'm curious if the file will play for me (I use ForceGraphOn) so could you post a 20 MB sample on megaupload? If it doesn't I can check with some of the tools I have.
Martin
me too..uploading now...
mpegstreamclip says it's an unsupported file type?! http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6D51MZKD only info i could find on differences: Quote:> > "The MPEG-2 Demultiplexer ("demux") filter demultiplexes MPEG-2
