With the current patches, I have not had one single LiveTV problem since the 20th. One Saturday I let LiveTV run for over 10 hours without a glitch.

The main problem based on zaldwaik's logs an my earlier experience is NPVR does not respond to a stop on the media stream when LiveTV is playing, as a valid stop. mvpmcx2 uses this method which is normally just end-of-file, to exit from an error in the stream or not enough demux buffering.

Is there any way I can force the problem to happen here, so I can test a fix?

Would you prefer it drops back to the menus when this happens, or restarts live tv on the same channel? The latter might be a nicer handling from the user's perspective.

Thanks Sub, of course I am not privy to the technical details. But the issue is a blank screen/crash during Live TV, even with no trigger, or sometimes with a channel change (it looks like the recording file is not growing). Anyway, I only applied the patch from this message as I do not usually apply patches unless needed. I would be happy to to do any necessary testing. I can give you access to my machine if you want to.

I prefer the restart Live TV option.

Sub, I think if you added a delay of about 10-20 seconds on the open of the second rolling file by the web server, you could cause the demux to empty.

There was a similar blocking situation in 1.4.7 with GBPVR on to the NMT and MVP after two live tv show changes and I was able to pro grammatically sent the LiveTV button to get out of it on the NMT and this seemed to be something the users liked.

Sub I wanted to confirm this and it works if you have GBPVR on PCHServe is to run mvpmcx2 using the old web port

mvpmcx2 --em-web-port 7647

At the end of the first rolling file segment, mvpmcx2 will send the stop for EOF but nothing happens and the screen goes blank. You can then change channels (up/down key top right) and the new channel will play and hit stop and everything will be normal.

Sorry guys, but this is getting worse. Now I have a common scenario where a lockup during a Live TV session will, apparently, stop current recording too on the other tuner. Shutting down recording service will reboot my machine Sad and then repeat. If no recordings are in progress typically I just reboot the PCH to resolve the issue. I have changed tuners priority with no difference in results.

I have attached the logs for this repeatable scenario. This happens consistently and typically when the file is rolled and the old one cannot be deleted for some strange reason. I checked file handles when the error occurred and there were two different ones belonging to the same process (Nrecord.exe).

There is a minidump that I will be looking into for the reboot, but losing the recording due to the lockup is the real issue.

Any guidance on additional diagnostics is greatly appreciated.

I think I mentioned in another thread that if this problem was too troubling you would need to go back to GB-PVR, but I think there was another alternative to watch in-progress recordings. I think I also explained that rather than stopping the recording service you would only need to run the following command to get back to normal.

taskkill /IM NextPVR.exe /f

Note that you didn't include the most important log but I think it was the same problem and until sub has a patch there isn't a lot more you can do.

This patch attempts to fix the problem Martin described earlier, where mvpmcx2 encounters a problem in the stream, and asks NPVR to stop live tv, but it doesnt and results in a black screen. This should now correctly return to the menus.

It has only been very lightly tested, through the use of a manufactured scenario, but hopefully should do the job.
