Hello!

I'm pleased that I joined this community. I have a problem with GB-PVR I cannot solve myself.

I have to stress that I've read all the FAQ and all threads regarding troubles with ATI Theatre 550 Pro chip boards, but I couldn't find any solution

I've been using WinFast TV 2000 XP board from Leadtek. But I wanted something with hardware MPEG-2 encoder, so I purchased Sapphire Theatrix TV tuner card, hoping that there will be less problems with it.

Silly me Smile

I won't tell you how much frustration PowerCinema bundled with the card gave me. I did some test with Snapstream's Beyond TV, but I could not complete the first-time tests (could not render the stream or something similar appeared).

So I wanted to know GB-PVR software better. I programmed all channels and they appear OK on the screen, but there is no sound but the white noise on all TV channels. On FM channels there is a very good sound.

What can I do or check to make GB-PVR work with my card?

Surely something with my configuration is wrong. You can see config screens HERE.

May be - for auditing reasons - you need other data like system logs, GB-PVR logs or dxdiag log. Please tell me what do you need to know to solve this problem. I expect that most PAL-B region users encounter this problem.

My system specs:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600 (WinXP Retail)
Intel Pentium 4E, 3000 MHz (3.75 x 800)
MSI 865PE Neo2-PS (MS-6728 v2.0) (5 PCI, 1 AGP, 4 DIMM, Audio)
Intel Springdale i865PE
1024 MB (DDR SDRAM)
RADEON X800 PRO (256 MB)
Creative Audigy Player Sound Card
Intel 82801EB ICH5 - AC'97 Audio Controller

GB-PVR was developed in New Zealand. We use PAL-B and PAL-G, but I've not encounter this problem on my ATI 550 Pro.

I should mention, GB-PVR doesnt do anything PAL-BDGHI.... or NTSC specific.
I just tell the driver to tuner to channel X and it is supposed to take care of video standard and sound standards. In you case it sounds like this is not working out correctly. It sounds very much like a driver problem, so all I can really suggest is making sure you have the most up to date drivers installed.

There isnt really anything you can tweak in GB-PVR for this, other than checking you have the correct country set in your capture source. Behind the scenes this country code is passed to the Theatrix drivers, which it uses to determine the broadcast system from a predefined table (search for put_CountryCode at google).

Thank you for quick reply.

I've tried all countries and guess what happened:

1. When I choose Poland (where I live) - all 61 channels are great in video and noise in audio.

2. When I choose:
  • New Zealand
  • Austria
  • Norway
  • Romania
  • Spain

- 6 channels have excellent audio, other channels - white noise.
Those six good channels are (cable network):
60, 63, 77, 95, 113 and 220.

For me it looks like there is something wrong with audio frequency definition for Poland, OR - my cable network is using non-standard frequencies or non-standard audio from video frequency offset (or something like that).

But crappy PowerCinema finds all channels and they all have good audio Sad

If we're talking about drivers - I've been trying to change 4 ATI Catalyst drivers back and 2 Theater 550 Pro drivers back - nothing changed at all - still getting noise on the same channels.

I really don't know. May be I will return to my old TV2000 XP and put Theatrix on auction...

If you know the exact frequencies of these channels, you can put them in the place of the channel numbers in the capture source settings. If its less than 999, its treated as a channel number. If its greater than 999 its tried as a frequency.

What happens when you use the tuning assistant?

It finds all channels and I write down all numbers and then I manually enter them in the configuration utility.

So, if I get for example 295.25 MHz I put there 29525 and when I get 311.25 I put 31125? Or I operate in Hz - for 295.25 I put 295250000?

Well, very strange thing happened - when I put frequencies in Hz, I lost the noise and the audio at all Smile The video is great, but the sound is gone, doesn't matter which country I choose Smile

I think the lack of the sound is better than that annoying noise Smile

I will experiment with those frequencies by adjusting them a little, but I don't feel this is going to help Smile

You could try setting hz frequencies, then selecting different countries to see if the sound comes in. You cable broadcaster may be transmitting with a standard that is usually used in another country.

I've done that and no luck - there is no sound on the fixed-frequencies channels on all countries.

Could you tell me where the channel definitions are? May be manipulating in them will give some answers?

I'm not sure exactly what you after. GB-PVR only stores country, tuning type (cable/antenna) and the channel number (or frequency). All of these are editable in the config app. There is no other hidden information. GB-PVR passes this information to the drivers and it does the rest.

More information can be found here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/defaul...tuning.asp
