Hi,

i use GBPVR together with a PVR350 card. Is it somehow possible to watch DVD movies with this card? I installed the "My Videos" plugin and configured an external DVD player. But when i start playing DVD i can only see it on the normal PC monitor not on the TV!

Thanks,

Hi again,

it seems that it is not possible to play DVD with the PVR350. Is there any other way to get the DVD to the TV??

I can't imagine that all the people that have a PVR350 don't watch DVDs!

Thanks,

you cant use the 350 output to play dvds. most people still have standalone dvd players, they probably use them. theres no way around it if you want to use the 350 output. so either use a normal gfx card output, and software decoding, or use something else for dvd playback. no matter what you do you WILL NEVER get dvds to playback via the 350. you could rip them to mpeg2, but would lose quality, and menus etc, and that takes hours.

you would have to buy a hardware dvd-decoder (i'm using a sigma designs hollywood plus)... you can get a used one at ebay (~10-20 USD).

then you have two possibilities (i'm using the first and it works well. the second one is not really an option)... i explained them here:

AMD 1600mHz, 512 M RAM, 20+160 GB drive, Hauppauge PVR-350 + PVR-150 + PVR-150MCE, Win XP Pro SP3, using software decoding.

So one solution would be to use for example MediaPortal (instead of GBPVR) with a PVR150 and a graphic card with a good tv out.

Hi,

that's a good hint. With gbpvr i can also use the tv-out of a graphic card to watch dvd?
Do i understand it right:
- with a graphic card with tv-out i don't need the tv-out of the PVR350 (for recording i can then use a PVR150/250)?
- when i start watching a dvd the gbpvr-osd is replaced/overwritten by the movie of the dvd?

I want to watch my dvds over gbpvr/mediaportal/... because i still have no external dvd-player and i don't want to buy one extra.

Thanks

Yes.

You can use it instead of an external DVD player. You get the normal DVD disc menus etc, and OSD information display over the top by GB-PVR.
