I have the nVidida decoder (new purevideo one), and the 5600. For some reason, the Interviedo would override the old one (even using the MS selector). The new one is nice, but turn off the HW accelerator. It only works on the newest cards (7800 or something).

Get the one for your card. I was under the impression that the newer ones were backwards compatible, but maybe not...
You can never have enough tuners!

I'm using the trial (1.02), w/ HW accel off. Love it. I'd try the older one first, because you may like the old w/ the accel on (it's HW compatible w/ the 5600). It will upgrade the old to new if you decide to test it. It unintalls clean if you want to start over, too.

I'll try the nVidia decoders and see if that works.

I'm also getting a new 10db RF AMP/Splitter to see if a boost in signal level will help the reception. I suspect that my current amp isn't actually doing much. The strange thing is that the video performance is worse now than when I had it in the build/test setup which had nothing but a straight from-the-wall cable TV input, just a 2 way splitter and no amp at all. And the video on the TV is terrific so I don't see it as a noisy cable input environment.

I'm hoping that the poor video and 'rumbling' audio is due to the reception. I've seen that on some channels where the video is almost acceptable the 'rumbling' audio also seems to be missing and the audio is also pretty good. Video and audio on DVD playback are very good and does not exhibit any of the problems i've seen with live TV.

I have a powered motorolla amp I've been happy w/. It didn't need a lot of help, but clears up some rough patches. Oddly, my GB tv output is cleaner than my TV output...I also added a FM trap, but I don't know if it helps. I just happened to have it.

I didn't think of the FM situation. I'm not sure if Comcast still carries FM on the local cable system but I'll check. Its possible that might have something to do with it.

I ran in to poor signal problems once I built in my 2nd Hauppauge card.
I tried an amplified splitter without result.
Then went to an antenna specialist, to get me a better quality splitter amp.
I ended up with a bag of coax cable, connectors and a (passive) splitter. All top quality stuff.
Guess what..... this solved all image quality problems.

To your sound issue, did yuo try to tune up the Hauppage volume ? like with the Hauppauge tweaker tool ?

I haven't tried the tweaker. But maybe I better.

Does anyone know if the channel frequencies for the Hauppauge cards are stored in registry or an "INI" file or embedded in the card?

Channels frequencies table is a Windows system default, but you can override these in registry
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\TV System Services\TVAutoTune]

(do a forum search or look at the wiki for more info on this)
