Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the replys. I think I found the problem and everything appears to be working now.

I installed a pci sound card, creative audigy2 value, a few days ago. Looking back at the 0mb files, I see they started at about the same time as I installed that, but I didn't realize nothing was recording until today.

I also set the new sound card in the playback tab for audio renderer in GB-PVR so maybe this was part of the problem. I wanted to have audio for my TV from GB-PVR and still have the audio for the computer from the on-board audio, but once I installed the creative software, the on-board audio stopped working. I'm not sure how the sound card could affect GB-PVR like this, but apparently it did.

I deleted the software for the sound card and disabled the hardware for the card also and this worked.

Taking this down to the most basic of causes....I had this problem about 1 week ago and I racked my brain trying to figure out what was wrong....did rollbacks, reinstalls, etc....

Turns out....was out of harddrive space. Got the 0MB recordings and it would get the same comskip and renamerecording error messages you guys are mentioning. I know some of you may have already checked this, but just a thought since space runs out quick depending on settings and frequency of recordings.

I checked my hard drives space and have enough room to spare on all of them. I can see how running out or getting low would cause problems though.

All,
I was starting to get some 0 MB files a couple of days ago but was also able to record some shows correctly.
Yesterday I recorded one show and it seemed to be all OK. I started browsing around on the harddrive and suddently was not able to open PVR folders anymore. I rebooted the system and to my suprise was not able to access the entire harddrive anymore. The system tells me the harddrive is ready to operate but needs a format.
This is a 160 GB harddrive - 2 month old. At the time it had more than 60 GB of space free.
I am no too worried about looseing the TV shows but all my home videos were on there too.

Have you guys seen anything similar? Any suggestions?

If you need any logs for review please let me know what files I need to submit.

After months of great service and a very stable system it happened again last night.....

I recorded a show and after finishing it I wondered why GBPVR was back with the default blue screen again. I checked my recording and was not able to find anything in there. All gone.

I tried to browse to the harddrive and had to realize that the harddrive is not recognized anymore and the operating system (WinXP) request a 'format'.

Anyone out there who had the same thing happened? I am coming to realize that this might be my harddrive (same error happened to me earlier as you see on my previous post).

I will go in with Linux and see if I can salvage some files. Any comments are welcome.

Tipstir,
thanks for the fast reply. No luck with LINUX so far.

Where can I find the log?

With regards to the power I am not sure if this is the source of evil as this setup has worked for years now. Unless we had a power surge during the recording causing the harddrive to fail.

FYI - the picture is my dog "Heitjer" - he past away three weeks ago after 15 years of loyal companionship.

Update:
After reading a lot of forums I come to realize that this is a hardware problem. I have a 160GB Maxtor harddrive and apparently this happens all the time.

I since have bought a new 300GB Seagate and and external housing (Nexstar3) with USB and Firewire. I then got the software GetDataBack for NTFS (http://www.runtime.org) and was able to recover all my files from the Maxtor to the Seagate.

It was worth spending the money on the recovery software. I am pleased with the performance and have not lost a single file.
