MVP's (for SD recordings) will work with NextPVR just fine as long as you use Martin's MVPMC dongle.....

If you are looking for simplicity (& you are not considering replacing your current TV with a smart-hub LG or Samsung TV) & you can find a secondhand A100 or A110 or EGreat M34a NMT at the right price they work just like the MVP's but a lot LOT faster & handle HD recordings fine.

Another option is adding a Samsung smart-hub Blu-Ray player. This is probably cheaper and easier than trying to find a A100/A110.

Might depend on where you are... there are about 5 per week posted on ebay in the UK. I recently picked up a used A110 for a buy now price of 15GPB plus shipping. Works great.

The big problem with this option compared to all other clients is how hit and miss skipping is on various Samsung players. I can't get it to resume which is a deal breaker. Comskip doesn't work even on the good devices

I have to agree with Martin, I used the app on the Samsung and like it, but prefer using the Popcorn Hour A100. I purchased the Samsung especially to use the app, and although I find the Samsung is quicker, I find the A100 rock solid with a few more abilities. It's definitely easier (and quicker) to pick up a Samsung player, while the A100 is usually ~$30 shipped in the US on ebay (sometimes as low as $20), while the A110 will go higher (sometimes $50) since it has the ability to internally decode DTS. That wouldn't be necessary unless you're ripping movies to your hard drive and using the DTS stream. I've had 4 x A100's in operation in the house, the first for almost 2 years, and have 2 in reserve just in case, as these just work, and with no complaints from my 8 year old and my wife!!

This is great information thx to all who's trying to help and guide me, I am leaning toward using a Homerun HD because it has 2 tuners in it and its cheaper than adding another card to my computer. (Hauppauge 2250) This way I can use the hauppauge already in comp and HR externally, which will allow me to record 4 things at 1 time and Nextpvr . The next stumbling block will be upgrading to the NextPvr software and keep all of current recordings ! Thx again

Martin

I live in hope for the Samsung player(s) as it is very convenient and uses the standard remote rather than finding another one.

I can't watch live TV (so use the TV!). I'm having to do a Videoredo QSF to clean and output in mpg in postprocessing.bat so that Freds skips properly. Resume doesn't work, so down to a pad and pencil for resume - at least large skips with mpg seems accurate. Comskip detection fails in the UK, so not a problem

Currently contemplating resurecting the A100.

The 2014 tv Pretty good at skipping even with skip helper turned off ( when a recording doesn't skip I just got back to main menu and turn the skip helper on)
2013 bluray is rubbish at skipping fast to respond in menus
2012 bluray is good at skipping but slow in the menus

I think this is the wisest choice. Just an opinion. The end block of your post. Get your NextPVR server sorted first!
