The two can coexist on the same PC so yeah no rush to remove GBPVR. Only one of them can have the MVP Server running though.

If you have a Samsung TV, you might want to look at Plex. I have been using their Samsung app for about 3 months now and their skip and resume work. That's the pro. Con: you have to install Plex. Not the must user friendly, especially when errors occur. And you have to rename you TV recordings to match their rules but you can use ImageGrabLite for that.

But first, get NextPVR up and running. One step at a time.

I have been reading and reading the wiki and hundreds of posts here and still learning great stuff! I just thought of something that may help me greatly since the server (computer ) is right next to the 1 TV I use this setup on, can I use the hauppauge IR blaster receiver and remote to control to do the same thing I am using the MVP to do ? Then I wouldn't need any other client . 2. I have 1 card in computer with 2 tuners (hauppauge 2250) since the nextpvr can record multiple shows through 1 tuner can I record more than 2 shows with just what I have (say 4 with just 1 card) thx again for the help

If you mean to connect the video out of the computer directly to the TV, then connect the IR receiver to the 2250 card in the computer, then yes, you can do that. There should be a jack on the 2250 for the IR receiver. No need for an MVP. The computer does need a decent modern video card, especially if you have HD channels. I've used a Nvidia 9500GT and a AMD 5450. You will need to setup the IR system on the computer. The best I think is to install the WinTV package that came with the 2250, and then follow Hauppauge instructions to get it working. (Assumes there are Hauppauge instructions.)

The ability to record more than one program on one tuner depends on how you get your TV signal, and perhaps where you live. If you use a set top box, it is unlikely that you can record more than one program, as the box just outputs a single program. If you get your TV over the air, then you can record all the programs on a single frequency (channel). In the usual US practice, you will see channels like 7.1, 7.2, etc. These are multiple programs on the same frequency, i.e., "major" channel, 7 in this case. NPVR sets the tuner to frequency 7 and can then record or watch any of the programs on that frequency. If you get "clear QAM" from your cableco, it works similar, but of course you need to find by scanning the clear channels. Most cablecos in the US are eliminating clear QAM, so this is a pretty limited case now.

Hope this makes sense. With this info, you should be able to get going, or ask some more questions. It would certainly help to know where you are and how you get the TV signal.

Ok thx for the reply! I live in US. Michigan, the way I am currently getting my TV for recording is through cable,(split before the box ) I have a box but I don't use that for anything but for watching live TV and in HD;So all of my recordings are digital but not HD (cable does not broadcast in HD with out going through box ). I do have an outdoor antenna but I don't use that unless cable goes out but that may change with the cost of cable keeps going up !
I don't have a new Video card with HDMI out on it but it has s video that is connected to TV and is the way I access my computer to install stuff and sometimes watch or setup recordings, which is not the best because of resolution on TV (36" CRT) not friendly with the computer resolution.
I was thinking of buying a Homerun hd and replacing my MVP with that but I don't think the HR has a remote to control it and control the nextpvr THX again

I, and many others, use a Hauppauge remote to control NextPVR. Plug the IR receiver into the tuner, install the Hauppauge program ir32.exe, update irremote.ini and you will be good to go. The only kink is that NextPVR has to have focus. When you press a key on the Hauppauge remote, the ir32.exe program generates a keystroke (as if you had typed on the keyboard) and passes the keystroke to NextPVR. More detail is at http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...ttonRemote

The HDHR is a tuner not a player so what you are looking a doing is impossible.

So what comes out of your wall is digital, unencrypted (can view without STB) and SD? If indeed this is the case, your ability to recored more than one program per tuner depends on how the cableco has their digital channels configured. They can carry 6, maybe 10 programs on a single frequency. You'll need to look at your setup in GBPVR to confirm that you are indeed using the digital tuners on the 2250, and see the channel arrangement. When you edit a digital tuner you will see a "tuning request" for each station that looks like T110,0,0~P:1... In this case, the frequency is channel 110 and the program is #1 on that frequency. For analog, you will see a channel number for each station.

For digital, you can simultaneously record all the programs on a given Txxx tuning request on a single tuner. When I had clear QAM, 1 PBS HD program, 2 PBS SD programs, and NBC HD were all on the same frequency and thus all could be recorded on a single tuner.

With analog, you can record/watch only one program per tuner. There is only one program per frequency. Hence the desire to move to digital. Many more programs on the same bandwidth.

All this stuff is often very confusing but actually very simple if you get a flow diagram drawn out and work out what you have and where you need to be Big Grin

But you seem to have got half way there by now giving more detail about your current set up and what you would like to do.

That helps us! I think

If your PC is right by your TV and that is the only client you require then NO I can't think of any better option than to lose the extender (MVP) and work on the straight from PC option.

But there are still things to do there/here. If I read right you have a CRT TV but you do use it connected to your PC via s-video?

You could get a USB MC type blaster and receiver to work NextPVR that way......

Have you got a budget? That is always a good place to start Wink

I may have been mistaken on what comes out of my cable after reading above I am pretty sure its analog because 1 of the TV that's in 1 of the rooms is still an analog TV and it operates on cable fine! without a STB . I think its time I just dove into this new npvr software and get it up and working like was advised above, I do like the idea of getting rid of the MPV and using the IR from my 2250 card and I may end up in upgrading the video card . So I still need to buy another 2250 card to allow me to record more than 2 shows at 1 time, just have to make sure I have a open slot for it
yes I do have a Sony Wega HD 36 inch crt connected to computer via s video
Budget well sometimes , but you know wife happy, happy life
Thx again for all the great information and guidance here
