When you say that you reinstalled the proxy, what did you do?

The comskip proxy does read the registry so that it can find SA no matter where it is run from, but it doesn't write to the registry. What portion did it rewrite?

I "reinstalled" it, b/c I had installed once before some time ago when you first made it available and I just wanted to make sure it was active - in place of the comskip I had been using.

When I say "installed", that means I simply unzipped the file, double-clicked on the comskip_proxy.reg file and a message open up that said "Are you sure you want to add the information in ....(the proxy.reg file)... to the registry." I clicked on yes and it said the info addition was successful.

I have/had a vague recollection of reading that the proxy simply pointed to SA in SA's default directory. I'm not a programmer and so the rewriting part of my statement was an assumption on my part.

After re-reading some of the threads, I guess I don't have a comskip proxy.exe. Is this what I need? Where do I get it from?

Hi Jere,

Sorry that I am replying to this so late...
Jere_Jones Wrote:I think the difference may be that comskip (almost) never marks the begining of a recording as a commercial. SA starts with the assumption that the first frame is a commercial so often will mark it as such.
For me this is almost never true. I have to pad about 6 minutes around recordings, so the first frame is almost always part of the previous show...
Any suggestions? I can't get SA to give consistent results...

Thanks,
GGF

Now I understand. That registry file was necessary for 0.5.0 thru 0.5.2 because I made a change without considering the ramifications. That has since been fixed in the latest version so the registry file is unnecessary and can be harmful.

What you need is a file "comskip.exe" that you put in (correct me if I'm wrong) the GB-PVR directory. It should replace the comskip.exe that is already there (make a backup). You can get it on the showanalyzer page on my website, which you can find by following the link in my signature.

I would appreciate it if no one would add a deep link to it. [Image: smile.gif]

I don't want to hijack this thread with discussion about how to get good results from SA, so I'll just point you to the DG forums. There is a lot of information there about how to get the most out of SA. Specifically, look for information on the school house. [Image: biggrin.gif]

Oh, and as a side note, when I say commercial, I generally mean any unwanted portion of a recording. e.g. A different show, the credits (IMO), etc.

Definitely hit the DG forums. We've been discussing various settings for quite a while now.
No matter if you use comskip or SA, a show segment will (should) be detected, and included in the recording. If the edge profile find's it, and if it's long enough (based on your settings) it will be part of the "show", either before/after the real show, or not.
