NLite Client on Raspberry Pi

I have a Raspberry Pi 2 that I would like to use to run the new NLite Client (. Has anyone tried this yet? A few instructions on setup would be helpful. I'm a bit new to Pi/Linux.

I'm not sure if anyone has tried it on a Raspberry Pi. You'd need to download the source, and extract it to a directory, and approximately follow these steps...

Install a few packages using the following commands:

sudo apt-get install libsdl2-dev
sudo apt-get install libsdl2-image-dev
sudo apt-get install libsdl2-ttf-dev
sudo apt-get install libcurl4-gnutls-dev
sudo apt-get install libvlc-dev
sudo apt-get install cmake

Then change into the nlite directory and run the following:

cd build
cmake ..
make

Then run it with:

./nlite

Hopefully libvlc (the video playback library) has support for the hardware on the Raspberry Pi devices.

I installed Ubuntu Mate on my Raspberry Pi and followed the instructions provided by Sub on this thread. The first time I ran nlite, the interface looked great and it even found my primary computer and displayed all of my recorded programs without any setup. However, when I tried to play a video, the video got stuck on the first frame and the audio stuttered. When I stopped that and tried to watch Live TV, the program crashed. Now when I try to run nlite again, all I see is a black screen - even after deleting the nlite folder and running cmake again.

Any suggestions?

I really don't know if libvlc (which is used for video playback) works well on RPi2 or not, you're the first person to ever test it on this platform for us. I've only ever used it on a standard Linux desktop machine.

If you start nlite, and it shows black, and you press ctrl-s (or maybe 'Escape'), does the UI come back? ie, if it died during a playback attempt then it may just show a black UI when you reconnect. The nlite utility is very new, and stuff like this still needs work.

When the app crashes, the error in the console window is: Segmentation fault (core dumped)

The audio wasn't stuttering today, not sure why it was yesterday. Just seems to be a problem with the video now. While the video is trying to play I see "ts demux error: libdvbpsi error (PSI decoder): TS duplicate" in the console frequently. Full console log attached if it helps.

Just a quick note. I followed the earlier instructions to install it on my pi3 and all went well.
Running it brought up the familiar NPVR menu and I could navigate round my recordings - BUT
when I came to play one I got the same results as post 5 above. - VLC crashed out and blank screen (spotted later post and ESC brought it back after a short while.

I saw no errors when installing libvnc-dev

OK, I had a few minutes before pub-time called and installed the main VLC package.
Gets further now - no crashes - however no video, but there is sound. error messages are (manual, rather than cut&paste this time)

avcodec decoder error: more than 5 seconds of late video -> dropping frame (computer too slow?)



This is using the pi3 built-in wifi so I will try to get time tomorrow to get a cable to it.

Has anyone ever had any luck getting a client working on a pi in raspbian?

I managed to build the thing, and when I run it, I just get a black screen.

I do see in this thread lots of references to black screens, although some had gotten it to open up at first and crash, or errors - I don't get any of that, only a black screen.

This thread is quite old, I would hope by now someone would've figured out a way to make this work.
