Is there any headway on this? is there anything we can do to help investigate this further?
it's pretty consistent, are you not seeing any of this behavior?
what was wrong with that file i gave you that crashes player?

Just want to add another data point to this thread. I was seeing the hang-on-skip quite frequently after upgrading to 4.0.4. However, it just so happened that a couple of days ago, the sound circuit on my video card died. That card was an AMD HD 5570. As a temporary solution I setup a laptop to act as an NPVR client. It was also hanging from time to time and just happens to have one of the AMD CPU/GPU combo processors. I bought an Nvidia GT 710 video card for the main system and have watched shows on it for 2+ hours now without a single hang. 2 AMD graphics cards were hanging, the Nvidia graphics card isn't (at least not so far!).

So, I'm curious to know what video card brand are others that are seeing this problem have? AMD or Nvidia? Could it just be that something in the AMD graphics subsystem is freaking out over the way the new process sends video to/through it?

Sorry - Mine hangs - Nvidia GT950 - also hangs on intel i7 embedded 4600 graphics - reverted back to previous version and await a solution

Just had a hang, even with my new Nvidia GT 710, but it is behaving far better than my AMD HD 5570 was. It seemed to hang at a Comskip jump point. It completed the jump, but then locked the video. The audio also stopped about 2 seconds later. I was able to press the short-back key and get the video to play again. Then I stopped the video so that I could zip the logs right away. I've attached them below, just in case something in them is helpful to getting this sorted. It happened around 09:09.

BTW, this is using the new reader.

had the new reader actually work playing an in-progress recording...once...
probably because i was watching the channel before the recording started, and then a dialog came up saying 'this tuner is needed for a recording, would you like to watch the recording instead?' or something of that nature..then i started watching the in-progress recording...all was fine...first time it allowed this and i could skip and all was good..Smile

then i stopped it to see if it was just because i had come in from tvguide and not recordings screen..nope..couldn't skip past live when either starting from recording screen or from tv guide...tried not resuming also..no luck..
so now i have to switch to old reader to watch from now till it finishes..bummer..can't find any other way to make new reader allow skipping past live in-point..

also, the dialog was odd because i have 3 tuners and none were being used except the one i was watching livetv on...
so why did it hijack my tuner when there were 2 others available and no recordings due for hours?

[new reader]
here's an odd screen i ran into today...[first time]
couldn't skip past the ending time even tho it plays fine past end...

also, i see times where when just playing, the video will judder slightly as if it's waiting for audio to catch up..just like after a skip when it's out of sync w audio. but this is not after a skip...just a period of uninterrupted playback.
like video is playing ever so slightly too fast and has to wait for audio occasionally..
maybe every minute or two is a half second off and needs to wait a short bit..hard to catch but it's noticeable if watching continuous smooth motion..

i still have recording if needed

sub,
I don't think you ever answered this question?
Please understand, I am most appreciative of what you've done for us, and this is in no way meant to be a negative comment, and I realize you're not getting paid for this and are very busy, but I am also curious as to whether or not you see this as a major problem.
I'm not looking for any kind of timetable for a fix, but it would help to know you are working on it.
Some users have dropped back to 3.9.2, and I would too if it wasn't for the CCs.
Again, please know that I appreciate all you have done for us. Thanx!

Yes, I absolutely see this as a serious issue that needs fixing. In fact it's probably the only serious issue I'm aware of. It's complicated though, and needs some good focused time to fix. Its going to need some good back and forth dialog between myself, and some of you guys that have reliable reproducible problems - so that we can try the same thing over and over, to help me narrow down the cause, and get you guys to test possible fixes.

sub, regarding this and the issue of live TV not working with hdpvr2 at all, I can set up a PC for you to connect into if it helps. I have a spare hdpvr2 that I can connect to it.

Yes, thanks - that'd be useful.
