Is it possible to set GBPVR to use the Nero Showtime codec for video and audio playback?

I have transcoded most of my library to Nero AVC, and the results are small files at superb quality. However, although these files are perfect quality when played back through Nero Showtime, the quality of video and audio when played back through GBPVR is not as good. I am using FFDShow by default, as the Nero codecs do not show up in the list of codec selections.

My question is, is GBPVR not detecting the Nero codecs for some reason, or are the Nero codecs 'hidden' from other applications?

TIA,

Big G.

In the config.xml you can add the exact filter names to the <SupportedDecoders> setting. It'll then be available in GB-PVR.

Sorry sub, I don't quite understand. I've looked at that section of config.xml, and I see the names of various filters. Is all I need to do type in the name of of the Nero filter, and if so, do you know where I would find its correct name?

Ok, here's what i've figured out.

I used a fresh install, and the only extra codecs i installed were FFDshow and Nero. I then went into the settings for GBPVR and set the Video playback decoder to 'System Default' (Nero still did not appear, but I was hoping this would now be the system default for mp4 files.)

It worked! GBPVR was now obviously playing the file at exactly the same quality as Showtime, and i'm sure therefore that it is using the Nero codec. Smile

But then something weird happened... As I was watching a video, I pressed the skip forward button. It skipped ahead 30 seconds just like it should do, but the video and sound quality had changed for the worse - it had switched back to using the FFDshow codec in the middle of the video! I repeated this with different videos until I was sure this problem is universal. Every time the same thing - start a video and everything is perfect, but as soon as you hit skip, it switches to the weaker codec. Restart the video and your back to high quality Nero again.

So, I went into FFDshow video config, and changed the decoder setting for all mp4 and H26x files to 'disabled'. I hoped this would stop FFDshow jumping in and taking over from nero. Restarted GBPVR, and ... the problem is cured! Perfect video and sound, no codec switching. Lovely. Smile

Glad to hear you got it going.

If anyone can provide the exact name of the Nero decoder filters, I'll add them to the master list.

According to deccheck the Nero video codec is called, creatively, "Nero Video Codec". When I put that in config.xml it showed up in GBPVR decoder dropdown.

Do you know the name of the audio decoder? I'm guessing 'Nero Audio Codec'.

I tried "Nero Audio Codec" but it didn't show in the gbpvr audio decoder dropdown - not sure what the nero audio codec is.

I have Nero on my machine and I ran Sherlock Codec Detective from a k-lite pack I have.

It says the Nero decoder is called "Nero Digital Audio Decoder"
