Auto start from Hibernate

Is it possible to have the computer start up maybe every 2-3 hours or so if it's in hibernate mode. Does anyone have this problem? You are out at work or something and the system is in hibernate mode, but you remember you want to record something. You try to access it through the web, but alas, you can't because your system is in hibernate mode. Obviously GBPVR has a way of waking the computer up from hibernate when it's ready to record, but i'm wondering if it's possible to add a setting that you can have it wake up every couple of hours so that if you remember that recording, you can just wait until the "awake" time and schedule your recording.

I wouldnt want to add something like this to GB-PVR. It doesnt seem like a very good solution to me. I'd rather just leave the machine running if I need to be able to access it remotely.

You could pretty easily roll your solution to do though this using the windows scheduler. Just schedule some daily tasks at the times of the day you'd like the PC to be awake.

I have been thinking something along these lines, too, but I so rarely get the urge to schedule something from work so I never pursued this further. However, what I was thinking was wouldn't it be possible to use something like Wake-On-Lan, which many MB support? Although I must say that I have no idea how it works, maybe you get wake-ups from all kinds of traffic, but it could be worth investigating for you. That way you wouldn't have to wait (and have time at that particular moment) for the machine to wake up...

- it works for me through my home server, which the HTPC is connected to. Maybe it won't work if it is directly linked to the modem, re-routing a WOL to your setup should work; haven't looked into it that closely. See section 5.

I have an external modem / answering machine connected to my PC. When I want to wake it up I simply dial home, wait for it to ring a couple of times and then put the handset down. Within a few minutes, it has normally powered up and posted its IP address to my home page. I can then communicate with it.

I also have a program running constantly which checks every 10 minutes for the following:

1. My main PC is not turned on. (I use the HTPC as a router you see)
2. It's not recording a programme.
3. It's not going to start recording a programme in the next 15 minutes.

If any one of these conditions exist then the PC is kept awake for at least another 10 minutes, otherwise the PC is put into STR sleep. Without this program I found that my PC just wouln't go to sleep.

Sorry peabody, only just seen your question:

I access GBPVRs mdb database file directly from my program every 10 minutes. I just examine the start and end times in the programme (?) table to determine whether it will start recording in the next 15 minutes or whether something is already recording. There are probably better ways of doing it without having to poll the database but it works.

Well mostly, currently rewriting it...

If you still need a solution to your problem then just let me know your current setup and what you require then I'll check to see if my program will support what you need or whether it can be modified to do so.

thanks. could you provide an example (or point me to one) of how to access the "mdb" database? i'd like to be able to extract all pending start and end date/times (and name if possible). one application would be to program my UPS for shutdown/restart.

You would need to install the microsoft program called Access in order to look at/change the database. Maybe there might be open source alternatives, but I have not looked into that.

You don't need to install Access to query an mdb database.

I'll paste some simple C# .NET code here when I get home from work. I'm also looking at the GB-PVR web server code to determine a better way of doing this.
