Hi, I'm really new to all this home media center stuff, and I was originally going to set up mythTV on a Gentoo box. But Im too new to linux to be able to properly troubleshoot that kind of system. Plus I like thing simple. I can break windows easily but I can fix it just as well , so I started looking for alternatives and came accross you guys. But I need a few questions answered first if you don't mind. Here what I plan to setup

I've got a spare
Athlon 2000XP+
1 Gig Ram
Roughly 450 Gigs of totally dedicated SATA drives
1 Radeon 9200 With DVI
1 PVR500
1 DVD Drive

And I'm thinking this is gonna be a fairly decent start, If I need more CPU I've got a spare 2500 Barton that I can swap CPUs with.

I'm also getting a projector, Im thinking of an Optoma EzPro739
Its got Several Inputs
1 DVI
1 VGA (That can be used for component video)
1 S-Video
1 Composite Video

Now the TV Computer that I want to install GBPVR will plug into the projector via DVI, I think this is a good choice, which leaves the VGA port opened for a Composite DVD Drive Which will also be cool. Now heres the million dollar question. My Sony Playstation 2 which you all know MUST hook up with the projector I want to be able to utilize the best video quality it has to offer, so I was going to get a component video cable for it... But the projector is using the only input for that, so is there a way for me to route my playstation through my computer and then use your software to "Switch Video Inputs" so its piping the HD input from the playstation down the DVI pipline all in a nice no-brainer little package. Or am I going to have to find an external solution with a switch to solve my problem because I cant route the PS2 into the PC in the first place.

I know this is quite an unconventional question and Im pushing the envelop in this forum but I figure if I've thought about this someone else must have as well.

Any feedback would be appreciated

Thanks

I think an external switch is your best bet.

Passing the PS2 through the PVR500 will add about half a second, making your response time look crap.

That's Cool, Thanks for the reply. I'm just going to hook the playstation up directly to the projector via the vga port. I wish sony made an adapter that allows that directly instrad of forcing me to go component -> svga, but oh well.

I have a couple more questions. First, I said I had a spare Hauppauge 500 but I must correct myself, I have to get one of those. However, I've been reading that they have issues with a via chipset. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP with a VIA Chipset. Is this going to cause issues or have these been resolved... Anyone heard anything?

If so what brand of card offers dual tuner that works with GBPVR and is as good as Hauppauge ?

Second, which remote control should I be getting. I was thinking of the ATI remote Wonder. Does GBPVR work with that remote? Should I look into a different remote?

Finally is there just a bigass list out there of exactly hat hardware is supported by GBPVR, or a least a list of minium recomendations, because I'd hate to get any of the wrong stuff :>

Thanks again.

The Hauppauge PVR500 is the only dual tuner card supported by GB-PVR. I think a couple more have recently appeared on the market, but I dont have these so they're not supported.

There is no built in support for this remote, but I know there is a few people using it so you shouldnt have any problems.

So now say I got with the ATI Remote wonder, and I also have an external tuner that needs the channel changed by GBpvr, Do I also need an IRT-Blaster as well or if I have an irt blaster then should I also be using it to recieve IR signals from a remote and get a remote that will work with it. And if thats the case what is a good remote control to use?

Thanks for answering these questions sub, I'm sorry I'm so daft with this crap.
