For the benefit of anyone who experiences the same issue, and finds this thread.
I have now fixed the Vertical Menustyle in NextPVR v5.2.2, which was the source of my problem and .Net Framework error, by following the advice given in a later thread which touched on this issue along with others.
The file to edit is "C:\ProgramFiles\NextPVR\data\skin\Default\Menu\Vertical.xml" and I am happily using the Vertical menu style with version 5.2.2
