Hi Martin.  I've been testing this latest release on a couple of my systems.  I'm only able to view the ATSC3.0 channels properly.  When switching to other channels I get the following message: "Unsupported Video" with a blank screen but there is audio.

uidroid does not do any video transcoding, I suspect the device you are playing on doesn't support mpeg2video which is what the HDHR will give you OTA but does support HEVC. That is quite common on phones, in Lineage OS builds and some Android boxes. You shouldn't have this trouble with any Android TV boxes. What device are you talking about?

The best way to test in in the setting there is an option called EventLogger scroll if you don't see it. In the Android logcat we can determine what the video format is.

It is possible to do transoded OTA capture in NextPVR as an extra device but in general you want to use devices that direct play.

Hi Martin.  The pre-release version was working fine with all channels until a few days ago on my Beelink GT King Pro and my Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+.  Then the ATSC1.0 channels stopped playing video although I did get audio. HEVC/AC-4 channels still worked fine.  I uninstalled the pre-release version thinking that was maybe the problem since the app complained about the demo time being over.  Installing this latest release, I have the same problem.  HEVC/ATSC3/AC-4 channels work fine.  But I only get audio on the ATSC1.0 channels and no video.

I'm also not able to find the EventLogger settings.  Is there a key combo that I need to press to get into the settings?

Problem was something on my end to do with my tuner.  Everything is working great now.  Sorry to have bothered you.

Like I said you need to scroll to get EventLogger but sounds like you don't need it.

Glad you got it working. For others who might see this thread a useful tool from the Play Store is DRM info.  It shows the h/w capabilities and also the Widevine levels. You can see on the image this tables doesn't support h/w mpeg2video

As explained in the announcement thread for uidroid this app only works for one week.  You can either fully reinstall it or PM sub requesting access, typically this app is for users who donate to help offset the costs of running NextPVR.

2022-12-06, 08:36 AM (This post was last modified: 2022-12-06, 09:17 AM by DSperber.)
First time in a long time, I decided to see what (if anything) has changed with UI Droid and NextPVR apps. A friend uses NextPVR and is investigating whether it can be a full or partial replacement for Windows Media Center (although he has copy-freely cable channels to consider as well), which is what prompted me to review what I had done in my own environment. Source device is SD Flex 4K tuner, with NextPVR running on a Win7 desktop machine.

So I tried to run both UI Droid and NextPVR on both my NVidia Shield Tube, as well as on my Samsung S21 Ultra phone. I did have both apps previously working on both devices, but tonight I had problems on both. So first course of action was to reinstall latest version of NextPVR from Google Play Store (first uninstalling, then re-installing). I also got the latest APK for UI Droid and installed it using ADBLINK2 on both devices. These actions definitely eliminated the basic problem issues I had initially seen with NextPVR, and it is now working properly on both Shield and S21 phone.

However UI Droid is now operating properly (for ATSC 1.0 channels) on the Shield. But on the S21 it is exhibiting the symptom described at the beginning of this thread, namely NO VIDEO (i.e. a message saying "unsupported video") for ATSC 1.0 channels but delivering audio just fine. And for ATSC 3.0 channels (with HEVC video and AC4 audio) I get no audio and no video, but just the spinning circle. When I tap on the screen it goes back to the Guide presentation with a message "error_code_parsing_container_unsupported".

Guide functionality and the rest of UI Droid seems to be operating just fine on the S21. It's just that I get audio but no video for ATSC 1.0 channels, and neither audio nor video for ATSC 3.0 channels.

It's been a while. I don't remember where logs are kept, if you want me to provide something. Where are they please?

P.S. - just dawned on me that I hadn't actually tried ATSC 3.0 channels using UI Droid on the Shield. So I just did. And... nothing. No audio, no video, just a "struggle", followed by a bounce back to the Guide with that same message I'd seen on the S21 when trying to watch ATSC 3.0 channels: "error_code_parsing_container_unsupported".

==> So it appears that the latest version of UI Droid is unable to deliver audio or video for ATSC 3.0 channels, neither on the S21 phone nor on the Shield Tube.

No video simply means your phone doesn't support mpeg2video this is typical for Samsung. Nothing I can do about that one but you will have better luck with sub's transcoding Android client

No ac-4 audio likely means your devices are reporting incorrectly that they support ac-4 audio, so you need to go to settings and force ffmpeg decoding.

I suspect something else is the problem the for the ATSC 3.0 channels possible the tuner is in use. Download the logs from the main settings web page and attached the zip file.

For WMC users uidroid doesn't support imported wtv files so Kodi would likely be a better client.

For DRM'd content on Android you are limited to the SiliconDust infrastructure.

You can download the logs from here.

As far as "no video for ATSC 1.0", how is it then that NextPVR has no problem with the identical video? Same MPEG-2 content, and NextPVR presents video just fine.

For the ATSC 3.0 channels, there is no audio and also no video. Even if I force FFMPEG decoding for the audio, there's still the problem of no video. This is true on both the S21 as well as the Shield.

I assume by NextPVR you means sub's Android client. It supports transcoding but it doesn't support transcoding of AC-4 audio

Regarding the failure of ATSC 3.0 channels Your device is reporting an error from your Flex 4k

Code:
2022-12-05 17:59:46.921    [DEBUG][114]    connecting to: http://192.168.1.44:5004/tuner3/v105.1
2022-12-05 17:59:46.983    [DEBUG][114]    Unexpected error in HTTP input source: System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (503) Service Unavailable.
   at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse()
   at NShared.Shim.InputSourceHTTP.WorkerThread()
2022-12-05 17:59:46.983    [ERROR][114]    806 Tune Failed

We know that NextPVR isn't optimized for the Flex 4k properly. I suspect what you are seeing is a NextPVR change in v6 not falling back to working tuners (tuner0 and tuner1 only for the fake ATSC 3.0 channel) To confirm you can go into the NextPVR web settings and disable tuner2 and tuner3. Hold the control key to see the disable option.

Yes, by "NextPVR" I was referring to SUB's app, not your UI Droid app. And I am only concerned about seeing if it displays video from ATSC 1.0 and 3.0 channels. Not really concerned about its inability to handle AC4 audio.

Regarding behavior on the Shield...

You are correct, I am using NextPVR v6 (6.1.1.221106, which I believe is the latest version available). And in fact you are also correct that if I disable tuners 2 and 3 that sure enough it is now able to present video for the ATSC 3.0 channels. And re-enabling tuners 2 and 3 sure enough it fails just as before (the new log entries show the same thing as you found in the earlier log I had provided, that it was unsuccessfully trying tuner 3 and failed to try the correct tuners 0/1 instead).

Will you report this to SUB? Or do I need to post a new thread of my own on the ANDROID sub-forum? Seems hard to conceive that I'm the only/first person ever to have seen this symptom, but it's definitely failing on this latest version of software.

On the other subject of your own UI Droid failing to present VIDEO for ATSC 1.0 channels on my S21 Ultra phone, again... why should that be?  SUB's NextPVR app on the same phone DOES deliver both video and sound for ATSC 1.0 channels, indicating that the phone does provide support for MPEG-2 video. Yes?

It is only your UI Droid app running on the same phone that delivers only sound for ATSC 1.0 channels but NO VIDEO (presenting "unsupported video" message).
