Comskip audio lag in playback

Then I can't understand how comskip could cause this to happen because the MPEG file is not changed by comskip. it only generates the skip information.
Maybe there are certain exact locations in the MPEG stream you player has problems with and by accident comskip output succeeded in hitting such a point?

The only thing I can think of is disk contention. With multiple processes accessing different parts of the same file at the same time, its possible the playback graph is unable to get the video data at the steady rate it requires.

We've also seen stuttering from PVR350 owners on fragmented disks.

For whatever it's worth, I have scheduled tasks which run nightly to defrag all of my hard drives. There are no fragmented files on any of my disks except for a handful of files on the system drive.

I wasnt suggesting your drives were fragmented - just giving another example of were excessive disk seeking could cause stuttering. My main point was the disk contention could cause excessive disk seeking.

I tried a few decoders and some were worse - but none better. I have decided to help the machine along a little with an injection of RAM. 256 always was a little on the low side.

Has anyone observed if smooth playback is affected by RAM?



Anyway - I am now seeing an error reported in the comskip.exe and zero length recorded files :eek: - so Comskip can wait a while. Thanks all for you comments.
