Quote:sub- they don't seem to be created all the time. each file is 0-size and has the name of a previously recorded show (same name as the recording folder that the show went into). e.g. "The Simpsons" this is in c:\Program Files\gbpvr, whereas my recordings go into D:\tv
Sounds like a plugin is at fault to me. I cant think of anything GB-PVR that could create this file in that directory.

i have never added any plugins. i used the usbuirt channel changer but i have that disabled in favor of an exe changer now. it's possible the files i have predate that switch, will check.

It doesnt really make sense to me, but I'll take your word for it. Next time you see one of these gets created, post the log files and I'll take look.

i found one of these 0-size files created last night and am attaching the logs. (you can see the directory listing in LISTING.long - "back blah" was the name of a manual program i entered for testing something).

FWIW there is also something strange going on with the 0-sized file "Tracey Takes On ...", I can't do a long listing (cygwin ls) even with quotes. maybe the dots or might be a cygwin bug. The recording directory appears as simply "Tracey Takes On" (no dots).

so there seems to be no correlation to the usbuirt plugin, since 0-size files were created since i disabled it.

I can confirm that. I have never used usb-uirt, and I do get those 0-byte files sometimes. And as for sub's question to peabody; in my case this only happens with files that I have recorded. Other than that, I can't tell when they show up.

Do I use any plugins? The one that springs to mind is BleepBloop. Don't think I have any other installed.

I've never done any real research over these files since they don't bother me. They just exist =)
I'm not always right

There is a problem w/ these and a period in the name and spaces. Since they have no extension, it can lock them sometimes, or make them undeletable outside a safe start. This happened to me once, but I forget the show. It's the only pain w/ these.

I suspect its something to do with alternate data streams. Can you try doing the following:

notepad "C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\back blah:metadata.xml"

here it is:

<recording>
<filename>back blah</filename>
<channel>2 WBBM</channel>
<status>READY</status>
<startTime>2005-11-03 01:28:00</startTime>
<endTime>2005-11-03 01:29:00</endTime>
</recording>
