It seems that UK Sky TV have implemented a new viewing policy that requires the user PIN to be entered if you want to watch an 18 cert movie that starts before 10:00pm.

While I think this is an excellent idea if you have a family with young children, it gives me a major problem if I want to record something with an 18 cert if it starts before 10:00pm, as there is no way to send the PIN code via the channel changer (I use USBUIRT).

Anyone have any suggestions?

This is preventing me from recording some really cheesy (and funny) B-Movies from the Horror Channel, who always seem to start them at 9pm.

You'd probably be able to implement something to solve this using Girder.

I thought the PIN requirement could be enabled or disabled on a per-channel basis with the new software? Or even globally turned off?

Checked it out. There are 'Parental Control' settings on the box, but since they are all turned off (I checked), this must be something Sky have implemented outside of user configuration control.

Bugger.

I've just been caught out by this.
I promised the old dear that I'd record something for her and send her a DVD with it. An old black and white horror movie that was rated PG and started at 19:00. As soon as it started it asked for the PIN number, so all I've got is 2 hours of blank screen
I don't think there is anything that could be done about this, there's no way of detecting it asking for a PIN and if the pin was ever sent when it wasn't needed, then it would change channels.

I'm going to complain to the broadcaster. I wonder how they handle this with doing an 'autotune' on the Sky EPG??

My GF had this - on speaking to SKY they said they were "randomly" requesting the pin on cert 18 shows... And said there was no way to stop it...

Stupid thing was that the +1 channel didn't require the pin...
