Hi there, I've searched as much as I can and I can't find a solution to my issue(s). This may not be a GB-PVR issue, but I just can't tell.

System setup:
WinXP SP2 on Shuttle XPC w/ VIA FX43G, Duron, PVR-500, VGA monitor

In GB-PVR I only setup one capture source (to start), I've installed various video & audio decoders and I've tried all of them with the same result: a black screen and system freeze requiring hard reboot. I've tried every combination of audio and video decoders and renderers. The capture source appears to be set up correct, with EPG settings and all.

Video decoders: Cyberlink (x2); Elecard
Audio decoders: AC3Filter; Intervideo

Any help is much appreciated, and I'm a novice in the world of PVR, but not in hardware and software installation/maintenance.

If the machine is locking solid, then thats usually a pretty sure fire sign that there is some is wrong with the capture device in your machine, probably caused by either it's drivers or some sort of conflict. Changing video/audio decoders is unlikely to help this.

Have you been able to get the card working with any software?

Thanks for the quick reply. I have no other software to test this with... I think. The card is quite new, with (what I think is) a new driver, but I'll check the Hauppauge site. Additional info that may be helpful: in my TV buffer folder there is an mpg file with the name of the program that I would have thought would be showing that is 0 bytes.

You could try installing the Hauppauge WinTV software. I'm fairly sure it'll also work fine with the PVR500.

Heh... hadn't realized that app was free... they really should put it on the CD... or id they do, tell us where it is on the CD. Gimme 5 minutes to install the latest, greatest driver and WinTV...

Okay, so I got the latest driver, and there was some update for PVR PCI cards on the Hauppauge site that was a brokern link... hmmm... and I installed WinTV2000. When I try to run WinTV I get the error: "Failed to create TV Wiundow. Another application may be using the driver." The app also came with a small video capture app (vidcap32), and if I try to run that I get the same result as in GB-PVR (black window and a freeze).

Soooo, I guess its not GB-PVR... but any other insights would be helpful. I'd hate to send back the card and wait another 7 days if its a driver/software issue (mostly since a new card might not fix it).

There was some conflicts with the PVR500 and certain motherboard chipsets, but I cant remember exact details. It might be worth looking on the Hauppauge forums at http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board, or SHSPVR forums at http://www.shspvr.com/smf

*sigh*

No help yet. There was/is an issue with the 500 and Asus motherboards (not what I have), and that doesn't seem to be resolved. I'm getting every WinXP update I can now, then I'll try again. I'm running on a mini-ATX board, meaning only one PCI slot, any suggestions for a dual tuner system with only one PCI card if I can't get the 500 to work?

No. The PVR500 was pretty much your only option.

It's not an Asus issue - it's the VIA VT8237 Southbridge. Check...

http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showpos...ostcount=1

I think everybody on that thread that is having problems has a VT8237 Southbridge on their mobo. Most of them have Asus boards but a few don't. MSI also use VIA chipsets. I just checked the spec. on the Shuttle FX43G - it seems you've got a VT8237 as well. Sorry.

I wish somebody could prove me wrong on this but as soon as I saw your post and the mention of VIA and a PVR500 - I looked up the spec for your system.
