Nearly ervery new HTPC case now is bundled with a vfd.
My case too - a usb connected vfd - i´d be verry happy if someone could
write a gbpvr plugin for this displays.
I´m quite happy that i can use it now with lcd smartie and it would be great to use it with gbvr.

Hey everyone. Sorry for being away for such a long time but my life here in Prague has been more hectic than I expected and I haven't had much time for any GBPVR work, especially since I don't have a capture card that fits into the laptop I'm stuck using for the time being...

Now it looks like I will have more time and therefore I wonder: is there a decent USB2 capture alternative that works reasonably well with GBPVR?

If I can get my hands on one of them I'll start using GBPVR again and also keep adding more useful features and necessary bugfixes to the Smartie LCD Plugin....

The best USB 2 device i've used is the NOVA T USB 2 but i'm not sure if it's DVB you're after. I'm not too familiar with USB Win TV products but i'm sure someone can help out if this is your thing.

So the Hauppage USB devices work in general? Are there any issues with USB2 and recording in general such as bandwidth problems or such? I haven't tried any USB devices that require a lot of bandwidth and I hope I'm just overly anxious about USB's capabilities, I've always found it's performance a bit disappointing... I'm moving to a new apartment next week and I think I'll only have Analog Terrestial and satellite TV there so DVB probably won't be of much use. I was looking at the neat and tidy HVR-900 (about the same price as the WinTV USB2 Analogue, but DVB-T added as a bonus I might be able to use sometime in the future).

I've had the happague usb2 for about a year now, and have had no problems with it. Although i dont have anything to compare to, the quality of the capture is excellent, and it has no read/write problems to speak of. Since it is a hardware encoder, usb2 has plenty of bandwidth to take care of it.

By the way, have a Staropramen for me, I really miss that stuff!

All the Hauppage USB devices i've come accross work very well indeed but there's no reason to suspect other brands aren't as good. Just make sure you check it works with GBPVR first!!

There certainly won't be any issues with bandwith. A DVB channel only uses approx 5-6MBits. This is way below the speed of USB 2.0 (480MBits for High speed USB 2). I can't speak for Hauppage PVR capture as i've never really looked into it but I think even DVD's hardly get above 8MBits.
