Ok, everything on my system seems to be working well except ONE issue.

As you will see in the picture (which is photoshopped and not an actual screen cap, but illustrates the problem) when there is fast movement from left to right or top to bottom I get this redraw line that goes from mid screen on the left side to midscreen on the top. It seems to be drawing one frame behind or forward and doesn't produce any kind of colored line, it simply lets you see it's rendering behind the larger portion.

I have a PVR 150 with windows xp. My vid card is a noname ATI 7x series I think. Latest drivers are used, I have done multipule refresh rates in the vid card settings. It is now in Video Mode and it's still there.

Ihave tried VMR9/7/overlay, same issue. I have tried different settings such as FFdshow, encoder passthrough, etc. It's still there.

Just curious for ideas. This happens in live tv and in video file playback (from sources other than those recorded by the wintv pvr150 so I am thinking it is the video card or decoder?

Sorry, I don't have a vast knowledge of all the things and decoders in GBPVR, so any direction / help is great!

I can see the problem -

There's a bloody great dog sitting on your mouse.

Errr.... did you post the correct picture? Smile

Hahah yes, that IS a problem, but not the main problem Smile

As said, it isn't an actual screen cap, but a photoshop demonstration of what happens.. can you see that part in the picture? It cuts off the dog's head and the laptop... it's just how it looks on TV but in motion.

Aaaah.... I can see it now. My first thought was overlay settings, but you say you've tried that. How are you viewing? LCD, CRT, TV?

I actually have noticed the same thing in my system. When the image pans from left to right as well... most noticeably when watching Jeopardy, as they scroll from left to right at the beginning of every round, from one category title to the next. (Ok maybe that is a bit too obscure). I hadn't actually thought to ask in this forum as I have always regarded this as an artifact of the MPEG codec choking when too much change is thrown at it from frame to frame. My system is quite hearty (2.13 Gig Celeron with 1GB of 2 CAS Latency DDR shared by the MoBo-integrated Radeon) Has anyone actually "solved" this issue for a completely artifact-free replay of video segments involving hefty amounts of scrolling left-right?

This is being viewed on my 32" JVC tv. It is a new(er) tv and is being displayed over S-video.

Yes, heavy left to right scrolling produces this issue. However, I just figured out the issue with avi playback, i had to set my MPEG2 decoder to 'MAIN CONCEPT' instead of 'system default' and the jaggy line is gone.

I also set my deinterlace to encoder pass-thru and as of now, life TV (with the MPEG2 decoder specified) seems to have ditched the line also... sweet! Guess I just never hit this combination until now.

Problem solved Smile

that's the video 'tearing' that's symptomatic of the video card not being able to keep up with the input..could be anything but usually it happens with older, slower video cards but sometimes it happens when using modes that are not very efficient..
usually it's caused by colorspace conversions before the decode..
some decoders can take more colorspaces as input natively while others have to have it converted beforehand..all handled by windows so gbpvr doesn't have much say...make sure your agp is set as high as it will go, try both settings of agp 'fastwrites' [on or off] and use an accelerated mpeg decoder [nvidia,cyberlink,dscaler5[free!]some intervideo and mainconcept and others]

[gbpvr can only 'suggest' mpeg decoder, the rest of the connections to build graph come from windows, so if the gbpvr preferred decoder can't work for some reason, windows will try other decoders till one does, so you never know what you'll end up with....check lastgraph.grf in gbpvr dir for what's REALLY goin on when playing..]

i use G-Spot to analyze what filters get used when playing a file to see what's goin wrong and the filters can get rather mucked up..filter merits[priorities] and colorspace conversion needs for each filter can be a very hit n miss proposition...

basically, try to find a hardware accelerated mpeg2 decoder, and try to stay away from having too many mpeg decoders installed at once, trust me you'll have an easier time

I figured this out before your post but yes, you were spot on that I needed to use an accelerated MPEG2 decoder to get it work well. This solved the issue.

Thanks all Smile

In response to this discussion, I also went back and read end-to-end the "disappointing mpeg 2 decoding" thread like I should have to begin with...

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=5600

..and I am much, much more satisfied with my MPEG2 decoding. A couple points:

* be sure to reduce your bit-rate on your recordings to the lowest possible setting that looks good to you so as not to un-necessarily tax your codec

* be sure to use the Microsoft utility mentioned at the end of that thread to set your codec explicitly
