Aspect ratio problems

When viewing recordings on my 4:3 Tv, I am getting a squashed effect on any progs that were orignially transmitted in 16:9. It appears that the whole widescreen transmission is squashed up into the 4:3 format ( no black bars top and bottom of screen).

I have the following set-up

Recording on Freecom USB2 DBV-T, Cyberlink multiplexer
Viewing via TV out on Hauppauge PVR 350.

This problem has only started since I started to use the Freecom device for recordings.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can resolve.

Assuming you're outputting from a TV card...

F7 (repeat until you find the aspect you like)

Outputting from the TV out of the 350. I don't have a keyboard as I'm only using the Hauppauge remote to control things. I'll try F7 tonight to see what happens but I don't think this works when outputting though the 350 card as it has hardware decoding. If it works I'll see if I can set the remote to simulate pressing F7.

I think the problems more to do with mplexing the original recording.

There is no aspect ratio control for the PVR350.

I added aspect ratio control to GB-PVR after I'd already given up supporting or developing new features for the PVR350.

What I don't understand is if I'm recording analogue TV using the 350 the aspect ratio is always correct, with any widescreen programs being shown with a black section at the top and bottom of the screen. However when recording using the freecom device and Cyberlink mplexer it all goes wrong. I therefore have concluded it's something to do with the mplexing of the recording and resulting mpeg. Is there any configuration of the mplexing or would a different mplexer make any difference?

There is nothing with your multiplexing. What you are describing is exactly what I'd expect to see playing back 16:9 DVB recordings via your PVR350 which is treating the video as 4:3.

I am having a very similar problem. I've only been using gbpvr for a couple of days... loving it.
however... when I record 16:9... (freeview UK) and then play the recording back again... it is stretched out to 4:3.
I am using Hauppage nova-t 90002 and recording currently as dvr-ms - if this makes any difference.... though I dont think it does... since if I try playing the recorded files in windows media player... they are displayed correctly in 16:9... it is only within GB-PVR that the same file is played as 4:3.

Any ideas on what is causing this and how I could fix it?
Thanks for your help.

If you're using a PVR350's TV out like the poster in this thread, then there is nothing you can do about it.

If you're using a VMR instead, then you should be able press F7 to toggle between aspect ratios.
