Hi!

I've been using gbpvr now for a couple of months and so far im pretty impressed. up til now my general problems have been fairly easily resolved using this forum but now ive taken the time to start investigating my larger concerns.

so, the first problem i have is actually solved, although im not sure if the solution will mess up something else. what happens is that when i watch live tv or recordings of live tv a bunch of pixels, say 20 or so, is missing on the right hand side. as far as i can make out, this problem does not occur with avi or dvds.
playback in wmp is fine and if i select vmr7 instead of vmr9 the problem dissappears. in one other post sub has dismissed this problem but what might cause it? i have tried with both wmp9 from a clean xp sp2 install and then with wmp10 with no luck.
also, since i have now changed to vmr7, what changes in functionality etc. should i be expecting?

Now, for real problems. First of all, the thing that has been bugging me ever since i noticed it. If i play back some avi file (i guess the problem is the same with any media except possibly dvd) and i press pause, when i press resume the video skips like half a second, this can be really irritating if you want to pause in the middle of a sentence for some reason and then miss half of it. any ideas? ive been thinking about some kind of buffer of something but i cannot seem to find any setting for it.
This problem persisted when i changed to vmr7.

Next problem, recording. Actually, recording from the tv guide works like a charm. just perfect. Only thing i noticed there was that i by mistake pressed Cancel instead of Exit when i had just started a recording and was looking for a way to watch it. Wont make that mistake again.
My problem with recording is when i press the record button on my remote. in the previous version i tried it would just start recording and then crash (although the recording service would still record). in the latest version it actually starts recording and then plays back the file. a huge step in the right direction. problem is, when i try to stop, it crashes. if i press stop or if i press back, it just hangs (pause works though). however, the recording service will still run and the only way to get everything working again is to shut gbpvr down with task manager and then restart the recording service.
also, when im on it, i would terribly like a setting that lets me change the quick record quality, just because i dont have the time to go all the way through the tv guide it doesnt mean i dont want perfect quality.

my last question is regarding hardware decoding. i have a pvr350 and in the latest version it does recognize it if i select pvr 350 in the hardware decoding list. a good step in the right direction as the previous version i tried would just tell me it couldnt find the card. however, when i start any playback it tells me its trying to send everything down the tv out and after a few seconds it goes back to the menu. performance isnt really a problem but my cpu does go frightingly high sometimes and im trying to do everything i can to avoid problems with playback or recording, thus, i would really like to take advantage of the mpeg decoder that the pvr350 has, is there any way of making that work with the graphics card rather than tv out?

Cheers

Welcome to the forum.Smile

Nope. If only...

Quote:when i press resume the video skips like half a second,

I get a slight stutter. Ive just got into the habit of skipping backwards before resuming, so the stutter is on a portion of the show I've aready seen.

A bit beyond my knowledge of techincal matters, but have you tried changing decoders and so on? Or looking in the *.log files in the GBPVR directory to see if they have an error code logged at the time of your crash occuring?

This is nothing wrong here. You just clicked the wrong button.

Quote:My problem with recording is when i press the record button on my remote. in the previous version i tried it would just start recording and then crash (although the recording service would still record). in the latest version it actually starts recording and then plays back the file. a huge step in the right direction. problem is, when i try to stop, it crashes. if i press stop or if i press back, it just hangs (pause works though). however, the recording service will still run and the only way to get everything working again is to shut gbpvr down with task manager and then restart the recording service.
Reproduce the problem, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

Quote:also, when im on it, i would terribly like a setting that lets me change the quick record quality, just because i dont have the time to go all the way through the tv guide it doesnt mean i dont want perfect quality.
Sorry, I wont be making any changes in this area.

Unfortunately the PVR350 decoder is hardwired to the tv out connector, so there is no way to use it as just a decoder. When I first got my PVR350, I was hopeful I would be able to use it in this way, but it wasnt possible.

I have an update on the cut image-buisiness. VRM7 had terrible performance so i tried using VRM9 again but change video decoder from system default to the intervideo noncss something something and now it seems to work fine.

Here are the logs you wanted sub, i removed all previous and tried again with my new settings, still same problem. i guess you wont be needing everything but this seems to be the significant part. gbpvr.exe-native.log is in the next post.

From my programming skills, the first log seems to provide us with a pretty basic fault, if the class with KeepLiveTVFile() isnt initialized more people should be having this problem. but i dont know anything about how gbpvr is built. however, the file already in use comes only moments before the exception and rather seems to point to something in the comunication between gbpvr and the recording service or more probable, something with my setup causing a slight delay somewhere in the process. well, you're better off doing your own analyze.

At the time you press 'record' to keep the show, did the channel in question have listings? or was the channel that didnt have listings.

Looking at the code, this is the only possible problem I'm seeing.

So, problem solved. Dont ask me how though.

First, i ran o2grabber to update all epg data properly, then i emptied the epg data in config, then updated again. i checked a few channels to make sure the correct data had been downloaded and tried again and now it works.
this might be due to the listings i guess, i have had some trouble with when to run all updates and i think the epg data might have been out of sync. the data seems to have been correct the few times ive checked over the last week, although a few slight differences have existed.

when on the subject, sub, will gbpvr update the epg data at any other occasion than the time specified in config? and is there any way of running an update from command line?
Like i said, im still thinking of a good way to update the information properly without having my htpc running 24/7.

cheers

Not automatically.

Quote:and is there any way of running an update from command line?
You can run gbpvr.exe with the -OnlyUpdateEPG command line argument.

Seems nice. Having had a glimpse of how you think, codewise, i ran gbpvr.exe -updateepg in order to get gbpvr running with a forced epg update since this is what would suite me best.

when i did so i encountered a slightly odd thing. my shutdown plugin didnt load properly. the button shows up without text and when i press it i get an index out of range exception. when i load without parameters it works just fine

something you could look into sometime in the future perhaps?

here is the significant portion of the log
