Sapphire ATI 550 PRO + gbpvr set up?

Ok, so gbpvr is responding to the remote by displaying the desired channel number, which is good. GBPVR references this to the channel number listed in the config app channels tab. Check that the channel numbers listed in the channels tab are the numbers you wish to use on the remote (I think they start numbering from 100 upwards on the channels tab, so you need to renumber them to start at one).

I just got the same card and glad to see this thread. Im building this computer for a friend and wished I had waited on bulidng one for my daughter as I brought the MSI 550 pro and the only a few things on the remote works. I've seen the cyberlink remotes on e-bay and probably will pick 1 up.

anyway, my question is, I have a 6600 bfg nvidia video card and have the nvida dvd player and I also now have the cyberlink power dvd. I heard to go with the nvida dvd software because it matches the card. which decoder would you suggest. gbpvr works just fine on the other system and is way way better than cyberlink 3.

The proprietory features on the Nvidia cards is advanced motion/adaptive deinterlacing and H.264/AVC acceleration, so if you want these features you need the Nvidia Purevideo decoder.

For DVD playback any decoder will work with the Nvidia video cards (inclusive of DXVA for MPEG2 hardware acceleration).

I have setup GBPVR on the DVD tab to use Cyberlink Navigator and decoders for maximum interoperability with the Cyberlink remote, but note that GBPVR controls most of the DVD functionality (FF/RW, etc). Note most DVD movies are recorded in progressive format so the decoder does not perform deinterlacing, hence you are not restricted to the Nvidia decoder for DVD playback.

I have setup GBPVR on the Playback tab to use the Nvidia Purevideo decoder to take advantage of the advanced deinterlacing capability on the video card for viewing LiveTV and playing back recordings.

Well that is what I did to suit my needs, but you need to decide what is best for you.

(I actually installed the Purevideo decoder instead of NvDVD)

thats what i did also, I meant the pure video decoder and im running it on
vmr9 which gbpvr is also set to. not a bad picture but i just got it going today. I didnt install cyberlink dvd player yet. I have noticed that I loose the sound when ffw, rrw or skipping a chapter. I did take the check out of short skips instead of ff/rw, might you have an answer for this? Im also using the cyberlink remote tv works well changing chanels and the top button on the left of the remote takes me to the gbpvr menue while still either watching tv or dvd. The right upper button though puts the computer into standby mode. Is there a way to use this to bring up gbpvr and then close it?

Most of the cyberlink buttons work in gbpvr, however there are some white buttons at the top of the remote which do not apply to gbpvr and hence do not work in gbpvr. The top-right button is the windows suspend button, and is not a PVR related function key. You will notice this with many Cyberlink buttons, eg the volume buttons adjust the windows master volume.

Tip regarding the Purevideo decoder configuration:
Aspect ratio: raw mode
Acceleration: ticked
Renderer: VMR9 (set gbpvr to this)
Deinterlacing: smart
Deinterlacing: VMR Default (this may show anyway but is not applied until you actually save it)

'VMR default" will use hardware deinterlacing which provides advanced temporal/spatial deinterlacing which provides a far sharper picture than "best available" which uses BOB deinterlacing.

Note, you usually can only access these settings while the decoder is in use, refer to the Purevideo user guide.

Thanks so will stay away from that, can the remote launch gbpvr and then close it if so how do you do that. If then its the mouse?

any thoughts why after i use the ffw or rw or skip a chapter I losse the sound when going back to play?

I hate asking stupid questions but lol, but under de-interlace mode i have best available display fields seperatly and combine fields I dont see vmr as you say, am I missing it somewhere in the decoder settings? Also if it has to be changed when in use how do you do that?

1) the Nvidia video card requires Forceware 84.12 or later (Beta 84.20 best)

2) You can only access the VMR settings when the decoder is in use. As per the purevideo user guide, the purevideo decoder icon becomes available in the taskbar when it is running, and you double-click on it to adjust the settings. Note however the Purevideo icon only becomes available in the taskbar if it is the default directshow decoder and gbpvr playback settings are set to "default". This usually requires tweaking of the directshow filter "merit" values on all the decoders so that Nvidia is the highest priority. The VMR settings only come available when acceleration is active and using vmr renderer. Note acceleration usually only works when you have only a single display (clone or other modes don't support DXVA acceleration).
