So I finally went out and bought a mediamvp box and an encoder card to use with GB-PVR. I followed the directions to the t, and can't get the mediamvp to connect to the "bootserver."

I have th mediamvp connected by lan cable to my netgear mr814 router which computer is also hooked up to. I have installed the latest hauppage software (2.1.22054), only have one nic which is plugged into the router, have disabled my software firewall, and still cannot get past the "connecting to bootserver" message when the box is turned on. When I go into my router's configuration page and look at attached devices, the mediamvp does not show up. I'm using Windows XP if that helps...please help!

Can you get it to boot with the original Hauppuage software, or does it only do as you describe above?

This happens when only using the hauppage software. I tried using the gb-pvr server, and it didn't work.

One interesting note is that I can ping the mediamvp box and get a response (and the network light on the back lights up). Its almost as if the hauppage server software is just not seeing the incoming connection attempt from the mediamvp box...

Some more info that may help... In the MVPStart.log, the last entry is:

04:05:19:05:03:15 ServiceCtrlHandler:Received unknown service control

This is definately one of the most frustrating gadgets to try and get working.

Still no luck Colin? Maybe you bought a broken one?

Maybe you should try it with a cross over cable between your PC and the MVP. Also, check you're temporarily not running any software firewall (including built-in XP one).

I'm thinking its a firewall thing.

If i boot my machine, i can get the mediamvp to connect (using hauppauge software). I can browse audio, video and pictures. I can display pictures, but I cannot play audio or video.

Interestingly, if I stop the hauppage services, power off the media box, restart the services, and power up the medai box, it cannot find a bootserver. Again this leads me back to a firewall problem. I'll uninstall my firewall software and see where I get to.

So i'm guessing the box is ok, its my xp config thats a problem. Definately do not have windows xp firewall running.

I'll need to see if anyone in work has a crossover cable to try that.

Colin.
