Hi,

I have realised that the tv picture quality, is much lover via GBPVR and ATI Theatrix 550 than the original tv picture. It is the same quality on the monitor also.
There is no enough sharpness and light in the picture, which can not be adjusted with Video card or on the tv. It looks like that there is no enough dynamic in the Luminance signal.
The picture quality was better on the Powercinema3. Is it any possibility to find out what kind of filters are used in the Powercinema3 by default, and set these in GBPVR?

Thanks,

Gabor

Powercinema is made cyberlink, so in gbpvr choose that as the codec in the player properties. http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Config/Playback

Thats what i found with the ati 550 also sorta.. but it wasnt any better with powercinema.
It appears its the same as other peoples i guess... but im just unsatisfactory with it being less then tv quality..but it appears other people think its good and or better.
I sorta expected super sharp clear images but i guess thats not what you get but i hear there is a few options .. with certain video cards to help this... i might try if i get a diff card or drivers.

I had similar experience initially but found that poor quality deinterlacing was the main issue which blurred the picture and made it appear fuzzy. Most mpeg2 decoders only have "bob" deinterlacing which is very poor. There are now advanced deinterlacers that use adaptive motion/vector deinterlacing. The best bet is to use your video card deinterlace functionality (adaptive deinterlacing is now available via the latest drivers for both ATI and Nvidia video cards, although nvidia requires the purevideo decoder to make this work). In order to use the video card deinterlace function, simply disable the decoder interlacing by setting the decoder to "weave" (pass-though with no deinterlacing). If your video card does not support deinterlacing then try to obtain a mpeg2 decoder with the new adaptive deinterlacing function. Note that if you are using mpeg2 decoders within GBPVR then it is highly likely that you will need to configure the decoders via registry settings for GBPVR use.

I have an ATI 9550 video card with catalyst 6.1 drivers and use the Intervideo decoder with the registry setting for Weave deinterlacing and the picture is amazingly sharp compared to the old "bob" deinterlacing.

Another trick I found was to reduce the ATI550 noise reduction setting to "light" which again sharpened the picture. The default setting of dynamic appeared to misinterpret fine detail movements as noise and smooth them out (eg tree leaves rustling). I use a utility called ChrisTweak to adjust the 550 settings. I also noticed that the 550 sharpness setting changes to a value of 128 when used by GBPVR, but the default is 200, so again I have used ChrisTweak to default this setting which when defaulted seems to stick ok. I have found the sharpness setting doesn't make much difference.

Edit:
Also just remembered that the Mpeg2 encoder is very poor and you need a very high bitrate to get a sharp picture. I have configured GBPVR for VBR 8-12Mb/s to get a high quality capture then transcoding to MPEG4 which keeps the quality but significantly reduces the file size.

Hi,

Why it is not enough to set the Weawe in decoder settings in GBPVR config?

Thats good if you are able to do that. If you are using the Intervideo decoder (like me) then you cannot set any decoder options via GBPVR.

I have tried your settings, I have 9550 also with deinterlacing support, and its much better, but there is a problem with the colours and details still. Especially a face of a man not detailed enough, and it has mainly orange colour.

I have played with Catalyst Control Center, the colour and the video settings for the tv out. Now it almost perfect. I switched off Noise filter at all. My question is if I would like decrease the influence of the 2D or 3D filter also, do I have to set the threshold high or low value?

It appears that there is a new driver released today. Check out

I'll download and install it this evening and have a play Smile
