Well we are fed up with Mediacom Cable and we are getting dish tv!(personally i'd prefer directv.but its the rents call)... So what would be the best option for me to control it with gbpvr..

I have a hauppauge pvr 250. No IR blaster or anything like that.

What would be the best box to use for dish tv? whats the easiest way to control it?

Please give me some light Smile

EDIT:: For people outside of the US.. Its basically the same as Directv...

Would a MCE 2005 remote work? It has ir blaster no? I think i could just pick one of those up for 30 or so... The hauppague remote doesnt have a good layout anyways Smile

I have the Hauppauge PVR150, so it came with an IR Blaster that works perfectly with my Dish receiver. I'm not really sure if the MCE remote solution would work since I've got no experience.. hopefully someone else can chime in on that.

I don't like the Hauppauge remote either, but I just took my universal learning remote (cost like $15 at WalMart) and "learned" all the Hauppauge remote's buttons onto one of the devices on my universal remote. Now I don't have to touch the Hauppauge remote anymore Smile btw, the one I use is a Philips model.

With IR blasters.. It just emits the signal like a remote right? So i could keep my hauppauge remote... and that would go through the pc through gbpvr (i would select usb-uirt for channel changer) and then it would emit the signal for the set top box to turn the channel?

Is there any lag?

Then gbpvr also turns channel for recordings?

Yep, you've got the right idea of how it works. The IR Blaster will send the signals that your Dish remote would send, so it changes the channel for you.

The Hauppauge remote signals are received by the infrared eye sensor and send commands to GBPVR, more or less, and this is what lets you use the remote to control the pc.

I don't notice any lag; actually I'd say its faster, since the IR Blaster can blast something like "2 0 0 enter" very quickly, much faster than a human can press those buttons on the Dish remote Smile

Yep it will change for recordings as well. Basically, you don't have to worry about channel changing at all when the IR Blaster is set up. Just trust the system and you'll be pleased with the results.

Which dish reciever do you have?

does the dish and the gbpvr osd overlay?

Yes for live tv. When you using an IR Blaster, it adds a 1.5 - 2 seconds to the time required to change channels. Pretty painful, but there isnt really much I can do. Tuning analog cable via the tuner is definitly a better user experience.

So is usb-uirt supported by gbpvr... i just select it as channel changer? Then is there like a usb-uirt app where i define ir codes?
