Hi all, I have been working on fixing the image quality of my pvr-150 in gb-pvr for about two hours straight, and I would like to share some information. In order to fix the image quality of my live TV source, I had to do a number of things

1.) Download NVIDIA video decoder from NVIDIA’s site
2.) Download Hauppauge tweak, I can’t remember where I got it

Then go into config, under playback select NVIDIA video, and audio decoders, and system default for audio renderer, I then checked the box marked vmr9, my computer is fast (amd 3400 64bit) but if yours is slower this may not be the best box to check. Then under the misc button, I selected encoder pass through in the live preview selection, checked use live preview mode if possible, and then went back to the playback tab.
I clicked on the video decoder properties, and brought up the NVIDIA settings,

I selected anamorphic
Hardware acceler
Smart de interlacing
Best available under the de-interlace modes
and checked prefer vmr9

Hit ok a couple times to save, and exit then I selected the Hauppauge tweak program.

I selected 150/500 advanced
I checked both temporal, and spatial boxes, and set temporal to 2, and static to 0 ( for some reason setting temporal to 0 resulted in it defaulting back to 5) then I checked all 4 save setting boxes, and hit save settings.

Hurray all my blurring, ghosting, tearing problems are gone. For a bit better picture I ran the thx setup off the finding nemo DVD, and adjusted the settings according to the instructions.

Hope this helps someone,

Useful post. I'm gonna try these settings since I have similar problems. Thanks.

I took this one step further with the Purevideo decoder. I found that "Best Available" only uses BOB deinterlacing, but by adjusting the Purevideo settings during use (as per the Purevideo user guide) gives you the VMR deinterlacing options. "VMR Default" deinterlacing option will give you hardware advanced temporal/spatial deinterlacing which is far superior to BOB deinterlacing (note this setting will probably be already selected, but DOES need to be saved for it to become operational). This applies to both Nvidia and ATI video cards.

For Nvidia cards you also require Forceware 84.12 or later.
For ATI cards you require CCC 5.13 or later

Note also that the Purevideo icon only becomes available in the taskbar if it is the default directshow decoder and gbpvr playback settings are set to "default". This usually requires tweaking of the directshow filter "merit" values on all the decoders so that Nvidia is the highest priority.

Directshow is the multimedia component of Microsoft DirectX, which is an add-on to Windows and is required for many multimedia applications including GBPVR.

There is no user friendly configuration, it is all configured using Directshow utilities. Download graphedit and launch this utility and select menu:
File>Render media file> select an mpeg2 file
The resulting graph is using the default highest merit filters (decoders)

If the default filters are not what you want, then download Radlight Filter Manager and use it to reduce the merit of the default filters, and while you are there check the merit of other filters (decoders) that you recognise and adjust accordingly. You need to reboot the PC to apply the changes then go back into graphedit and try rendering media file again. Keep repeating until you get the filters you want being the default filters.

is a 2.8ghz P4 with 1 gig ram too slow for vmr9? I get 40% cpu usage even with the nvidia decoder (6200 agp) selected and it's showing up in the tray.

2.8Ghz P4 will easily handle the load. I'm using a Sempron 3000+ with 40% steady load without DXVA, and 15-40% spikey load with DXVA.

Where might I find the Hauppauge tweak? Maybe a filename will make the search easier?
